Oh no! The Small Dive Death!

  • I have been travelling in Japan for a few weeks, without my OW...got back home yesterday and took it for a spin to the beach. All good.

Took a similar mellow ride this evening, carving along, listening to music, then suddenly the board accelerated and nosedived me right into a deep ditch. Boom! Lost my breath for a few seconds, but no bones broken.

But...what is this? I have seen that others have had the same experience....battery was at approx 50%, I was not riding fast (btw; onewheel, please change the extreme mode, let us ride faster!), I think...

    A bit scary this...

    O.

  • @oledokka And I'm glad to hear no broken bones. You're okay to ride still?

  • @thegreck sure thing. I was lucky after all. I was also riding slightly uphill, and might have been a bit aggressive in my turns. Still, I am a fairly experienced board rider, not quite getting it...also think OW should embrace aggressive riding ✌

There should be extreme modes with user controlled pushback settings. 10 mph - 12 mph - 15 mph or something.

Will be riding today - it's Friday! 🤘

    Ole

  • I think I will try elevated mode for a while 😬

    Ole

  • @oledokka People have called me crazy for saying there should be a mode for advanced users with NO pushback.

  • @thegreck

Here in the dunes with ELEVATED mode 😷😀

  • @oledokka Nice! I couldn't get used to Elevated mode, but I know people (like @ricoburgos) who love it and always ride in it.

  • Nice Picture, Glad your Ok from your spill. and I agree

  • @thegreck I tried it yesterday, I think I like it!

I don't love Elevated all the time but find that on uneven terrain or lots of changing elevations, it's great; it's also saved me from eating it, as I've ridden the same areas a few times and have had to bail when on Extreme.

  • @shadowfx that's interesting, because I was trying it out last weekend on hilly terrain and nosedived a few times because I kept overshooting what the board was considering level, since I was so used to level being level... if that makes any sense at all, haha.

  • @thegreck ahhhhhhh yeah, I think I get what you're saying. If I understood you correctly, I felt that same feeling when the elevations were tight together and I wanted to keep maintaining a speed, but I found it happened less when I took advantage of the regenerative braking a bit and then eased into the next elevation while taking in some shock with the knees. Ends up being an awesome workout.

  • @shadowfx @thegreck I rode in Elevated only yesterday and this morning on the beach.

Started out feeling awkward, but after a while I really learned to like it. Elevated deserves more praise! In particular off road as you say @shadowfx, but also on more even surfaces.

I am going to hone my elevated skills some more...

    Ole

  • @oledokka After reading this I might just try it as well. I have never used Elevated Mode and I ride off road all the time.

  • I've started to ride in Elevated all the time, the sidewalks in town are terrible to the point where it's like being off road(I've started to enjoy riding on them, just not when I need to get somewhere).

  • Elevated on the beach tonight ✌️

  • @oledokka

    Epic picture..

  • This has happened to me 3 times; on asphalt. As far as I can tell, it has to do with weight distribution. I've figured out at this point. Unfortunately, I now know what it feels like to jump out of a moving car at 15 miles an hour. Ouch!
