Frankenpad experiment! ;);)

  • i was impatiant so I made a frankenstein prototype( I had a spare set ...saving that one!!;);)....and it works :):)...from the sensor area to the outsidecorners...next to wheel is the safe area LOL...also using the original screwplaces...so could be non destructive...lift up 1 side of the tape...insert the 2 ramps...put the tape back...ready to go....:):):)?!?!?!?!?!

I used 2 sepperate ramp pieces...didn't have long enough screws so had to use these things and 2 rubbers...
I kept a part of the original sensor coveringtape because I was worried about the wood spacers direct contact on the shiny sensor...so kept the tape on the sensor and put the spacers on top....and the 2 ramps on top of that so for now it is a bit higher then necessary...the gaps are bigger now but can be held shut without triggering the sensor...

if I step on it..i can keep my toes on the outer corner and still powered...weight to my heel instead of toes..works to stop..next to wheel stops...but the far corners will trigger so..:)..also because of the grip tape I think

for now it works...snowy outside ..and still crapy prototype...but...:)...
hope you enjoyed and hope to inspire...

and would really prefer thin sensor sheets haha or something so hope that works for someone...please share :):)

(I only had a livingroom and a dremel&sandpaper to work with so I know...it looks crappy:):).

  • and of coarse a futuremotion UPGRADE FOOTPADSET would be best! ;);|)...since it's also a little about safety from falling...not only V1/ V2 profit thinking

    let's see what happens?!;);)...(Future motion;)

  • Hello,
Really nice of you sharing your experiements, always wanted to hack the board myself.

Safety first! Carefull as it might stuck the sensors to an unforgiving always ON situation!

When hacking the sensors like this. Before you get it right and find the right system....
My personal feeling would be to add a kill cord:

    0_1487001714747_upload-041051bd-6ca3-432f-8626-7bb435b672e5 0_1487002057092_upload-e338025b-7592-4211-bdb9-79776d0e0ded

Maybe on the red thing around the ankle and the cutter on the GND wire to cut both sensors as "one only" at high speed does nothing.

    Bye

maybe ;).....but I realy like the fact that you control with your feet)handsfree' magic feeling..a kill cord would mean continuous power?! wich makes the sensort etc (redundant?) and needs speed control...

but good news!!! I solved the V2 surestance desire for V1 users;););).......non destructive/ invasive..

    step 1:
Make a ramp of your liking(make sure it extends about 1inch under the original sensor
    step 2:
    lift the griptape
    step3:
lift the sensor, partialy!(it's a thin flexible sheath:):):):)!
    step4:
insert the ramp...use original tipside screws
    step5: lay down the sensor
step6::lay down the grip tape or use new like i did (I also used the original blue piece underneath only on the sensorarea to give it dampening(It's 1mm thick plastic..griptape is thinner

    done...

it works nicely because when your foot is on the ramp area it's still partially on the sensor and your weight because of the angle is more on your inside foot...I THINK!;);)

    YAHOOYAHOO
    V2 Pads...right now!!!:):):)

  • pictures :)

At first I was trying to expand the area with spacers and bridges...which alwas left me with bumps in the board so when frustrated I started from sensor on ramp upwarts...it turned out putting the sensor on top of the ramp results in a bigger area triggered by your foot...I guess...think...worked out!!

you can see I'm standing on the ouside corners lights are up..did some zigzag etc :):)

I can only drive around my living room now....but this works better then all the spacers I tried..and slimmer
I rushed it all with practically no tools so You could do a lot better the first time you try..
round of the corners a bit including the bumpers...(minimal!).
use nice screws that are long enought
    and ure done :):
:)..back pad is a free project with no restrictions ;)

    good luck peops!!;):)

  • SOLVED,.. DIY instructions and pictures for all:)

  • finishing touches..bit of sandpaper and a bit of kitchen oil :)..no garage :(:(

saving the back pad work for another day...preferably in a garage with ventilation haha
let me know if anyone else gets it to work too (maybe hold back on the smoothness in the middle of the ramp...don't go hollow!;))

  • just finished(kinda..no new grip tape :(..) the backramp...so I can stop wondering about how + would feel more secure etc

I'm still have to replace the griptape and will probably mimic the new design...little bit more sanding...but all in all it looks nice allready and feels REALLY nice!!!...your legs angled to your center because of the ramps..not a bow tie look or to much angle because of it......and way before the + will arrive anywhere...especialy at my house...(I live in the Netherlands...so shipping the new + to here will probably be around christmas or something hahahah)

I can advise everyone to think about maybe making two little wood ramps(no big deal!!)
for themselves in order to give your V1 a V2 feel and look for 5$ and some sweat(or powertools;)

but mostly to keep your feet on the board/ sensor advamtage so you are more secure and able :):):)....Good Luck!!:)
