Mafia Slingpack bag

  • Starting it's own thread. The other Mafia thread talks about any bag except the Mafia, with little useful info on the subject matter.
    What is known:
    It costs $225.
It's not on the Mafia site at all. You buy it through OW.
As of this writing, there is good stock.
OW does not warranty it once used. Per Mafia, there is a lifetime warranty on "material and stitches".

To sample the goods, I've ordered the Mafia Dayrunner messenger bag and I'll report on that. I love that all their stuff is upcycled and each item is unique.

If anyone has any info on this bag or pics of it in the wild it'd be great to hear about it.

  • Awesome waiting on some reviews too.

  • Revised: Per Mafia, there is a lifetime warranty on "material and stitches".

  • @Poseur-Pete So I am guessing that would cover tears? I am just scared the sail fabric will start to give where the board frame makes contact on all 4 corners specially when u place it down after repeated use the fabric being caught between the frame and whatever you are placing it on.

  • @s2kboy It's too bad that the Sling bag is not on the Mafia site. Because there, it lists what each item is made from. Like it would list sail, kite, wetsuit, or etc for different things. For all we know the bag is kevlar sail and the corners are reinforced with something else.
I'm so anxious for my Dayrunner bag to show up tomorrow, it's not the OW bag but it'll answer a lot of MAFIA questions either way.

  • Was skeptical at first, but I think I'm gonna get this thing. I realized its compact size would be useful when riding, there are plenty of bags that fit the OW, but this is the smallest one. Also, with the external straps, I can strap a molle pouch on it to hold the charger. The discount doesn't hurt either

  • Serious question here, not trying to troll. Why would you want a bag for your Onewheel? I could see it coming in handy if you could fly with it, but that's not he case. It's already super durable so you don't need a bag to protect it, and we all scratched ours up the first 30 seconds riding it so cosmetics are out he window. Carrying it is easy with one of the cheap aftermarket handles if that's your concern. Also, whose trying to carry it long distances anyway? So how do you guys plan on using the bag? It seems like a needless expense to me.

  • @jeffmccosker Good question. I don't have my plus yet and I'm on the fence about this bag vs. other cheaper options, vs one at all. I'm thinking it would come in handy on family camping trips and the like, when you need to pile gear up and might not want to get a muddy/dusty OW on your wife's designer luggage (jk). The mafia is super low profile, so it would pack down when not in use, which is a big plus vs some of the cheaper imported options.

What about general car/truck transport? Would a strapped down milk crate work for that purpose?

I plan on lunch time trail rides on the daily!

    Good question

I often use the OW to travel to specific locations, stores, or buildings for shopping, photography or just general exploration. When I get where I want to be, I don't want to leave the OW on the ground, and I don't want to lock it up. Often I'll go somewhere and spend 30+ minutes there, or a few hours, and I'd rather have both hands free if possible. 80% of the time I ride, I use the OW the same as I would use a car, but when I get where I want to be, I don't want to deal with it, I want to do what I went there for and be free of the OW until I need it again.

That's where the bag comes in, of course there are many options for bags, I purchased a cheap one on Amazon that fits the OW perfectly and has plenty of storage space, but it'd be awkward to travel with a child coffin-sized semi-rigid bag. When I realized the Mafia bag is, at the moment, the most compact option possible for my personal riding style and usage, that's when I decided it was worth the 170$ish (with the discount). For the other 20% of my riding, it's strictly offroad and no bag is needed, but for a vast majority of my travels, the bag would grant me a lot of freedom with minimum effort.

edit: to address one thing you said specifically, I don't intend to protect my OW from anything, I've never cleaned it, and the edges of the rails are rounded and pitted with scratches and dents, it's all about the freedom to use both hands and walk around comfortably when I need to, and then, be able to ride, and keep a compact bag on my back when I need to as well.

  • I also really want to have a bag capable of carrying the OW and a battery pack and charger for more adventurous trail rides. I have a bomber burton backcountry snowboard bag that will hopefully hold the OW securely. The ski attachments at the bottom should match up perfect with the bottom foot pad to carry the weight and the vertical carry snowboard straps should keep it snug.

I don't think the mafia bag would work as well for this application as the chafon battery pack and charger wouldn't fit without an externally strapped Molle bag of appropriate size.

  • This one guy on the forums had a nice black pag that fit everything but he deleted his post. It was $75.00 too.

  • @No I hear ya, that sounds completely legit for your style.
I just lock my OW to the bike rack with a heavy duty U-lock through the frame so carrying it is a non-issue for me.
I was nervous at first to lock it up, but the Kryptonite locks have a $2,000+ money back bike replacement guarantee so that put my mind at ease.
Let us know how you like the Mafia bag once you get it. It looks like great quality.

  • I did get my Mafia Dayrunner bag. I've had bags that "look like" messenger bags, but this is a true messenger bag. It took a few minutes to figure it out. Very convenient and well built, with features that I didn't know I needed. If I didn't always carry so much crap around I could really switch to this. The day after I got it I took it on the train with the OW and did a bunch of errands, I had a great time.
If anything, it is made of plastic/kevlar used sails, and therefore you kind of get a "plastic grocery bag sound" sometimes. That's hard to explain and it's not a deal breaker just kind of a thing I noticed.
I'll try to post pics and stuff later I need to get to school and just wanted to drop a quick update.
I did order the Mafia OW slingpack. It's not to protect the OW, it's not to carry it around, it's another attempt of mine to bring this thing with me on the bus. I'm hoping it will make the OW manageable, help curtail the requisite "did you build that" questions, and avoid OW'ing around with a "bag the size of a child" as someone stated well elsewhere.

  • @Poseur-Pete are there usually issues with you bringing it on a bus?

  • Update...
I have cancelled my Slingpack bag order, sadly, for a couple reasons:
-Onewheel kind of sucks on the bus and I'm not certain a bag will fix that
-My situation has changed and I don't take the bus as often anyway
-It was taking a long time to get the bag so that was my final excuse

I hope someone gets one and can write about it. Another Slingpack bag thread was started, I think, by someone with the bag but no OW.

Also, for people who are into upcycled product manufacturers like MAFIA, check out Rareform. They make items out of reclaimed advert banners, which are mostly PVC, and indestructable.

    @drew
Drew, yeah OW is a handful on a metro bus (we have Gillig Phantoms). I have another thread about it somewhere. I made it work, but would basically need my own seat, and if anything was crowded or silly I'd have to stand there holding the OW.

That's only if it gets stolen due to lock failure. It won't protect you against some a-hole destroying your board trying to get it off the lock, or jamming a pocketknife into the tire because he's jelly.
