Introducing Onewheel+ XR

  • @glyph

Nope, just me relaying what I have read, and some speculation, on my part.

  • From what I have read the new battery is NMC. Different chemistry.

  • @sage954
And maybe they replaced 18650 LFP cells by 26650 NMC, which could explain both the added range and the little extra weight ?
In that case the board should be few mm thicker

  • @stryder9 they won't unfortunately

  • @douna unfortunately not

  • @future-motion Why not release the full specs of the XR now? I'd like to know what I'm buying exactly for $1800. I have owned a V1 and a + and while the extra mileage is super awesome, what about top speed, weight, and charging time? That would be the minimum information needed to make an informed decision before spending an important chunk of money (again).

  • Agreed, I am going to wait one more generation, I am fine with the plus... I don’t go for super long rides. I going to skip a generation and wait for the vII+XR=mc2

  • @rideonexperience Sounds nice! Didn’t tried the + yet, I love so much my old one...

I’m quite busy from now but I may call you in next months for a ride together :)

I usually ride around Grand Théâtre (my working place) so if you see me just yell at me ;)

Concerning this OW+ XR I didn’t ordered it yet as my girlfriend told me it would be a great gift for my birthday... as I was born on December I think I’ll get a new « OW+ XR+ S-Line » with all new things FM will bring up ^^

Congrats FM, I really like what you are doing and the fact that the price is always the same for new models and you down the price of older ones 👍

    Good job!

  • @Future-Motion Hi Future. This is Hugo. I am one of your many addicts to the best drug on the planet.

You are our supplier. I know, that you read the forum posts, yet are quietly watching from behind the bleachers many a time.

Can you please shed some light on our many questions?
I have a suggestion. You create a future motion moderated knowledge database of some sort, be it a thread, or a wiki esque page.

We the forum users, your crafted little addicts, can do most of the answering. We can try and answer as much as possible, and send it in for it to be revised by a future motion employee. (this will offload 90% of your workload)

By doing this, you can increase the support quality with little effort. We write, you revise ( and then obviously some things only you the employee can answer).

Secondly, we would be incredibly thankful if you could give us more info on the new board, Company status, future plans, etc. What the new specs are on the XR? how will NMC affect longevity? what to expect? etc.

  • @theredwheeler There's not really a need for the charge port cover, I cruise through puddles and mud, nothing really accumulates and it is easy to clean out with a q-tip, I do occasionally.

My board was serviced after I had added aftermarket parts, I simply removed them before sending it for service... I don't think they're as strict about warranty issues as you seem to assume.

Bottom line, FM still has the absolute best ride on the planet, it just got better with even more range. When many of us compare the value of the OW+ or the XR to other options it wins again and again. I pre-ordered the XR with confidence knowing I'll also be able to easily sell one of my extra OW+'s when it arrives.

  • Out of curiosity... Do the people asking if you can upgrade the plus to the XR battery, ask Toyota/Honda etc if they can replace their motor in their 2017 when the 2018 model comes out? Do you ask Apple if you can upgrade your 7 for the 7s camera? It's a new product...You buy new products all the time, stop asking for unrealistic questions that don't help their business thrive. If you want the upgrade, sell your used product and spend the difference. By selling your older product you help spread the stoke to other buyers who might not be able to afford retail prices... this is how every product works! Businesses would never thrive if you can keep your first purchase for 5 years rather than feel the need for an upgrade. For those who bought the plus recently, its still awesome and hasn't lost any value... its a beast, and now the XR is a beast with extended range. Decide if you want the new or not. -endrant

@glisse84 we swung once and missed, we will make sure not to miss again. We got your board back today and support should be getting back to you soon.
We leave no wheeler behind, hang in there just a little longer, we’ll get you sorted out shortly

  • @braswell normaly a person is aware a new model toyota or apple is about to be released thus they have the choice to hold out.

  • @cascadewheeler Bigger companies have "leaks" never does Apple say... hey we're releasing a new phone next month, so until then keep buying last years phone at full retail. You just start learning the companies upgrade cycle and reflect. I for one purchased a plus day 1 preorder, so Ive had a full year of loving it... I actually was in the market to buy a 2nd and then randomly say the FM email announcing the would be expanding the family. I honestly didn't expect them to upgrade a year later as I know they are a small company, but I was so excited about the fact that they were able to improve an already great product just 1 year later. We can now assume they will be releasing something new each year around CES. However who knows! Could be 2 years next time or 1.5 etc.. thats the game.

  • @cascadewheeler btw I totally agree with you and your statement on we should be able to buy now purchase extra footpads and accessories for the OW+ ... it's been a year! lol I really can't explain or defend that decision. I would have purchased a few by now already!

Your post is like comparing apples to oranges. The battery in the onewheel is a modular unit... This box is designed in a way it can be removed and replaced. Car motors/iphone cameras aren’t modular.

I think this is a totally fair question because, look- we spent over 1,500 dollars on a board. When a better battery comes out, it’s fair to ask to upgrade your modular battery. Many people totally need the extra range; however, don’t have the money to drop on a brand new board.

I understand your point, but some people don’t want to live in a disposable world. If you can upgrade, do it. Keep the board instead of just getting a new one

EDIT: Some people also believe their OW+ battery actually isn’t adequate for the increased power of the new board. Especially heavier riders. If onewheel wants to keep a fan base, they owe it to their riders

  • @shaka-wheeler It really isn't apple to oranges... the iPhones body from a 5 to a 5S / 6 to 6s literally keeps the exact same body and frame work, its how they make more profit by not changing molds and all the other components to production. The phone is technically modular, they just don't make it easy to dissemble or promote it, just as FM. A car is the same shit, rarely does one year really drastically change in design or frame work, they stick new components in and make the device better...

As of now this XR has a whole new bumper/bottom plate that we can only assume contains new controller board, obviously new batteries etc.. just cause they kept the motor and frame the same doesn't mean they will just sell people battery kits for self install.

Quite literally the same exact situation as my examples.

  • Can FM confirm what the % of additional torque is? And is the XR using a different motor from the plus? Thanks
