2020 Update: Better Board Shoes Make for Better Riding!
-
I tried out a pair of nike barefoot running sneakers because I thought it would let me make finer adjustments with my feet. Give me more of the feel like when I ride barefoot. I feel like I have much more control over the board when I ride barefoot. 1. The shoes are super comfortable to walk in. They have like no resistance. It's buttery smooth to steal a term. But, there was no improvement with "Driving" AND there was significant increase in stress in my foot muscles and sooner onset of fatigue. I go back to my if it ain't broke dont fix it. Adidas springblades or barefoot to me is the best way to go.

I sometimes use my SKINNERS... Barefoot feel without the risks of being barefoot.. also great for riding at the beach.. no sand in shoes...
-
I posted one pair of Astral shoes, but the ones below are preferred shoe. Great shoes made here in Asheville, NC. mainly made for white water but they work great for riding.

@CarvingUphillAVL & @bizrock
OK now I need to make a choice on which one I like best. The sole material looks similar.... A very good shoe company for sure. Thank you for the input....
-
Seems like Chuck Taylor's or other Skate/BMX shoes are perfect all around shoes.
-
@LidPhones Best advice I can give is to try them on. Don't have anything bad to say about the Brewers (or Donners, or Rasslers), just that the Loyak had the best feel for me when trying them on. The key is in the grippy sole, which all Astrals boast.
-
@LidPhones Good Luck! Lots of options out there.
-
I love my vivobarefoot shoes for riding. Minimal rubber between me and the deck for optimal control, but I am a barefooter everywhere also....
-
@Hazeey Same here! Vivobarefoot for everyday walking around and have been working great on my rides.
-
Any recent shoe finds with all the new OW+ riders out and about? I am still loving the Nike SB.....
-
This has been excellent.

@sonny123
Thanks. Those look great and should offer a great ride. I did a 5.7 mile ride after some time away and really appreciate a quality shoe.... Price seems okay too:

Yep, I like the flat sole, covers plenty of sensor,
as I ride with my front foot plenty forward.
-
@LidPhones @sonny123 I still love my Adidas Super Dailys on the board.

How you guys are riding more then a couple blocks in those flat ass shoes without your feet killing you is beyond me? I have bought a few pairs of flat "skate" shoes specifically for riding and they are all collecting dust now.. ruined the whole experience for me from the discomfort.
Then I tried an old pair of Nike Air Max I had laying around and damn talk about the most comfortable ride + full control & good grip..I can do 3-4 full charges back to back without any discomfort.. the full on air unit makes for a super cushioned ride especially in bumpy conditions + cuts down vibration.. these are my current favorite boarding shoes.

@GlueBreath I rode my board 24 miles 2 days ago in my Adidas. I'm 45 years old, 211 lbs. Live with the pain. Ride or die.
A musical selection to make your feet tingle and your eardrums vibrate like a butterflies wings...

@GlueBreath If you're having pain issues, walking, standing or riding in any shoe you may have plantar fasciitis or the start of it. These inserts have really helped me with foot pain and you can add to any shoe. They were recommended by my doctor. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=pure+stride+

Anyone using regular running shoes?

I'm also experimenting with Adidas Pureboost + Ultraboost but they still need to be broken in for proper long term comfort so I'm not 100% sold on them yet.. these are all $180+ a pair shoes retail so I wouldn't recommend them exclusively for riding but if you have an old pair laying around of either try it out.. might surprise you for a "runner".. I'm all about long term comfort since I use my OW as a means of getting around not just a recreational "toy".
Springblades my friend... with gel inserts... most comfortable ride you can get. Also if you have muscle fatigue I'm your foot, take magnesium pills before you ride. It will help with the muscle spasms

Have been playing a fair amount of Disc Golf lately so not a ton of speed more side hill on grass and dirt. I am liking the freedom and grip from this closed toe sandal..!
