Why does the board have to lock up @ max speed?
-
@bmtka what do you think of the crash3 helmet - crashe.com ? I just got one of those. I was one of those not going out with a helmet fool's - and I have helmets, just it's a bit of a bother. I got one of the chrash3's and been wearing that consistently.
-
I also roll sans helmet. Is the crash3 hat hot on hot days?
-
@kwatts It's better than nothing, I suppose. It's not going to protect you from much beyond some scalp lacerations and a minor concussion. It's certainly not rated or certified by any third-party for actually impact mitigation in any kind of crash scenario.
I wouldn't rely on it to do shit if you're going faster than a few miles an hour or playing in traffic at all. Remember, energy increases exponentially with velocity. A 10mph crash is 4 times worse than a 5mph crash. My argument is that the brain is pretty much the only organ the doctors don't know how to fix when it gets hurt. That, combined with how devastating TBI can be, basically ruining the rest of your life, pretty much makes the case against skimping out on this particular piece of protective equipment.
Like I said, it's better than nothing, but I would still encourage you to use one of those real helmets you have lying around. We need to make sure you stay smart so you can keep developing the app. (:

Kinda like head trauma.

I have this one.. Already saved my noggin once..
Giro Hex Helmet Matte Titanium/Flame, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0159OGZXC/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_1siAxb1JNA4VX
-
Yep, gotta protect that noggin.
Helmet, while a bit bothersome at first, once you're used to it, you'll feel strange without and on OW, it's a must.
-
I need an XL found this one.
very happy with it.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007FU6RAK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I agree on the comments regarding the need for a helmet, and one that is reputable and dual certified. I used to work with individuals with TBI's, and that was a large wake-up call.
Here is the helmet I have and like a lot:
-
@sonny123 Definitely good to have protection, but I noticed in your link that it's a non-certified helmet, which means you can't be sure if it's going to protect you when you need it to.
The S-One Lifer (which I learned about from @MichaelW ) are great helmets, and they're CPSC Certified to help protect against high impacts and ASTM Certified to help protect against multiple lower impacts: http://s1helmets.com

I just want to confirm what jglide said (I'm his bro). I have put nearly 500 miles on my board so I'm very very familiar with it. I always expressed my frustration that I couldn't keep up with him and his older board. I tried his old boards and noticed a significant difference in pushback that allowed me to instantly feel comfortable pushing 14 mph (on extreme mode). I tried both of his older boards and both are the same. It is faster, more stable, more intuitive and much safer IMHO. J-glide may not have believed me at first but after his friend who used to ride with us (using J-glide's 2nd board) bought her own, she immediately noticed the same differences, confirming that the newer boards are slower, less stable and much much more scary to ride at 14 mph.

Thanks for the link.
Do they run a little big?
According to the size chart, I should get meduim but I always order XL.
-
@sonny123 The great thing about these is they send you 3 sets of pads that Velcro into the helmet to get the size exactly right (the size you order, one size down, and one size up).
Just measure the circumference of your head and use their sizing chart to order the right helmet, it seemed to work great for me.
-
Hey, thanks again.
I called a place in Colorado and they had had the color I'm looking for. Cyan matte.
He'll change the padding to fit my noggin. ;)
-
@sonny123 Nice! Happy to help. I had been wearing a Triple-8 Gotham helmet, which is a pretty good helmet too, but switched to the S1 after I saw it and read up on it. I really liked the fit, and the fact that it was also one of the better helmets out there made it a win/win.
-
@Electric-Slide Is the Firm ware updated on his older boards? Im curious if this could be part of the issue.

The S1 looks nice and very slim too! I just bought a Gotham. Dang.
-
@duc809 If there's no scratches or dings (or stickers) on it, you can probably still return it. But Gotham is a good helmet... I just thought it looked a bit too big.
-
@thegreck Agreed! Gotham looks huge. I have quite a few miles on it already, oh well.
-
I like that the S1 all come in one size and only change the paddings.
I have another huge helmet that I dislike the size.
here's where I got it from with free shipping.http://www.sk8ratz.com/s-one-helmets-s1-lifer-certified-multiple-impact-cyan-matte-s-one/

@sonny123 There are actually 3 different size helmets, then the pads make it fit more precisely. This is from their site:
If your head is between
18.5″- 20.5″ you will want an S1 Mini Lifer Helmet.
21″ – 23.5″ you will want an S1 Lifer Helmet.
23″ – 25.5″ you will want an S1 Mega Lifer Helmet.
