Hoosier Treaded Tire & Rubbing (w/ solution)

@ashewheeler Looks like you bought the last one!
-
@thegreck
They said out of stock but I was able to place an order. No indication of when it would ship, but at least I'm in the queue. Can't wait to try it out!

@gwinntanamo
It rained today and I went out on my favorite hard dirt trail with the Vega slick. Might as well have been an ice rink. Any attempt to carve put me in the mud. I don't know how helpful the shallow Hoosier treads will be, but better than nothing. Anyone have any luck with mud and wet grass?

@desperado If you have a second Onewheel, you could keep one with a studded tire. This guy did it to his and said it rides great in muddy conditions now: http://community.onewheel.com/topic/6310/bedazzled
You just probably don't want to be riding it on asphalt with metal studs in the tire.
-
@ashewheeler I actually don't know, but I know I'm getting 30-50% more range than similar sized riders riding with me.

Ha, my OW was already a splurge. If bitcoin goes to $10,000, maybe I'll cash out and get a second one.

Yep, best part about it is when you want to ride back to back,
and it's always good to have a backup OW in case one is down.

Had a little tailgate party y'all! Wow it's a totally different animal. It's pretty much what I imagined but really nuanced so just beginning to get the feal. Tire change was no problimo. I used some woodworking clamps to break the beads and also used the clamps along with some wood scrap "spoons" and was able to ease the first bead up and sideways with the clamps until it just slipped past 180* and was free. The next bead was so easy it just popped up and over with the leverage of the rest of the tire. Really soapy water is the key. The replacement goes on super easy with strong hands and soap. It's different for sure so you miss the edges a little right off the bat. It seems to be about timing your lean with arc of your carve or turn more. The actual board roll instead of ankle roll is really nice when everything is synchronized, but because its so round and narrower it can roll and high side easier in a way if you don't manage it naturally with your lean and heel/toe pressure. I'll have to ride it some more and give a full review but I think I like it! Thanks again @No @Gwinntanamo for all of the pioneering!

@thegreck My Hoosier tire arrived today, after 3 days, despite being "out of stock". If only FM shipped so fast!

@ashewheeler Truly EPIC photos! The forum was crashed for a while. You didn't have anything to do with that did you?

@desperado So how are your second and third Onewheels?
-
@makermarc
Man, I sold my bitcoins at 4800 like a scared fool, so the 2nd OW will have to wait for Litecoin to surge a little more. Meanwhile, I am loving the Hoosier tire! It is exactly the maneuverability I wanted: I lean and it turns proportionally. Also installed the grip studs #1000 since it is winter here and ice patches might as well be sandpaper. Now I'm just waiting for it to get back below freezing so all this slush freezes solid.
-
@desperado You and me both! I did exactly the same thing with my OW, but I think 50 studs is not going to be enough. Found a cheaper deal on 100pk, waiting for those ponds to freeze for real!

@makermarc
Looks like you are going through the same nasty slush as me...
I think you need 1 stud per tire tread, which is 135 total (5 rings of 27 treads). I have 100 on there now; my middle and edge rings are filled, but the other rings I had to skip a bunch so I ordered more. I'd like to have several studs in contact at all times I would think, at any angle of carving.
I got from gripstuds.com. You found a better deal where?
