Introducing Onewheel+ XR

  • @future-motion
Now just need to secure the $1600.... Hopefully optimizations have streamlined production costs too... ;-)

  • SO. MUCH. HYPE!!!!! I'm a llittle sad because I can't afford to upgrade but also stoked that the engineering team at Future Motion is so freaking LEGIT and pushing out new quality products every year. Stoked for the future!!!

  • Can you upgrade the plus to the XR, for a cost of course?

  • Will the current +'s on the market have a battery upgrade available sometime?

  • Why does the top speed show lower than the OW+? Does this mean kickback will come sooner?

What is the total weight of the OW XR?

  • Way to little information to make an informed decision. Can i upgrade my plus or not?

  • You won't see any more info until they get all the people to purchase who tend to leap before they look. Once that crush of orders is over, they may release some info for the people who want details, before they reach for their wallet.

Let's hope there is a battery upgrade option. I kinda doubt it myself, but I can hope.

  • Seeing as how everything else is on full lock down by fm i agree slim chance for a plus upgrade... can't even buy new foot pads. I love my onewheel but hate that i can not get replacement parts. Fm won't be getting more of my money till those things change. The whole car charger thing really rubbed me the wrong way. Wouldn't let us buy direct instead they mark up like crazy and rip us off. Not cool.

They will be missing out on a ton of money if we can't upgrade the plus to an xr.

  • I'm not see the specs posted anywhere yet. Specifically, I'm looking for the battery chemistry and overall weight of the board. I'm curious how it gets the extra range. There's only two ways that I know of - either a bigger/heavier battery or a different and potentially less stable battery chemistry.

As I like my house to not be on fire from batteries exploding, please confirm the battery chemistry of the new OW+XR.

  • @julian
I ordered my OW + on the 27th of december and when I received it on the 3rd january, it DIDN'T WORK AT ALL.
I returned it at once and your team told me you would make it work...
Just unbelievable for such a prices' product!!!
Few days later you say you have a new Extra Range battery...
As a commercial gesture I hope you can put the NEW XR on my board AND a FENDER KIT
    Thomas in TOULON

  • @glisse84 Don't get your hopes up on your request. FM was several months late delivering my OW+ and didn't accommodate with anything to make up for their tardiness.

  • @glisse84

    hahahah good luck with that!

  • Hi Future Motion
Congratulations for the new Onewheel XR!! It looks amazing as all the products you’ve made so far. I’ve been a V1 owner since the beginning and was truly impressed by your products and the level of customer service!! However price is beginning to be a bit steep especially for us based in Europe. So before selling my V1 and upgrading to the XR, could you please post all detailed/exhaustive specs for that board? Charge time, weight, why such a range on the range, battery specs, flight regulation...
I appreciate that range has been greatly improved (which is great) but with such a short charging time for V1, I always felt that weight (rather than range) was actually the main burden for it to become a true everyday commuting engine. So comment on that and how it compares to V1 would be great. Thanks in advance for your answer.

  • The extra range would be fantastic to have. However, seeing further specifications about this new version will be good to make a better comparison to previous versions. Range is no doubt important to me, but the overall weight of the OW is very important to me, as is the ability to have potential for a quick battery swap. Dropping the weight of the OW may provide some added range, but more importantly it would provide an easier means of transportation and temporary storage (carrying it by hand or on the back via bag, etc.).

  • @future-motion Well, crap. Just purchased my + end of June 2017 (and didn't get it until six or eight weeks after that), and now I'm obsolete already. :-(

    1. Does this make the board heavier?
    2. Does this elongate charge time?
    3. The additional power doesn't seem to boost top speed, but is available for added torque/ride quality - does that last part mean the additional power is also available for added balance/nosedive protection? I realize nosedives can never be totally banished, but I'd like to see them be made more and more rare.

If I can get satisfactory answers to these, I might be willing to upgrade...

  • The board is 1-2 lbs heavier. The extra UMPH in the battery should help provide more torque, and hopefully reduce the chances of a nose dive at certain times.
Charge time will likely be over 2 hours based on the reality of the + charge times.

  • @gibby - Do you work for FM, or is this speculation? It's OK if it's speculation (and it seems like reasonable speculation), just checking my sources. :-)

If this is pretty close to the reality, I think for me these seem like good tradeoffs. Right now I carry my charger with me so I can charge up if needed while out and about, so no longer needing to carry that weight in a backpack but instead having 1-2 more lbs. be on the board itself is fine.

And 2 hours charge time is also fine, being that I usually only ride once a day (and, now that ride could be be a lot longer) and let it charge overnight.

And if it's harder to nosedive: best of all.

I just wish I hadn't purchased my + so recently. I would have held out and paid the extra for this. I'm skeptical that upgrades will be possible here, but it'd be nice.

  • @glyph in this article from Digital Trends they say its one an extra pound or two heavier. Gibby could be at CES in LV, NV.

  • What’s the charge time on this new battery?

I feel as if the current plus battery can’t neccicarily ‘keep up’ with the draw of the motor, so this new battery should offer a more stable current when putting a high load on the batteries - meaning there’s a good chance nose diving or surging most likely will be reduced.

I noticed when looking at pictures, it looked like there was more plastic on the bottom of the rails at both sides. Is this added protection plates, or is this to accommodate a larger battery/controller.

I currently run my board with float plates. If this new board actually sticks out more at the bottom, there wouldn’t be enough clearance to instal the protective plates on the bottom.

I have a V1 and a Plus. I love my V1 much more, and im really bummed they’ve stopped selling it

  • @glyph I think the type of battery is different and that no upgrade is possible as it would not be an electronical card modification.
shaka wheeler says that they've stopped the OW 1 and that he regrets it compared to his OW + so it seems (and it's understandable) that FM tries to improve her product and so...
It looks like they are progressing day to day and don't look far further...or are just doing like other big companies with programmed obsolescence.
A shame if it's so, especially for a company which asked for CROWDFUNDING
    But nobody's perfect ;)
