Riding on the sand at the beach
-
I would like to know Future Motion's position regarding riding the XR on the beach in the hard pack area.
Question 1: As long as the board does not come in contact with water, will the board be ok?
Question 2: Will moist sand and salt in the air harm the electronics?
Question 3: Is Future Motion an advocate and does the company support riding the XR on the hard pack section of a beach? There is a lot of chatter on the OneWheel Facebook page and I am seeking Future Motion's official message to riders.

This site, while curated by FutureMotion or their interns, is not a source of anything official besides announcements. You'll generally only find community-sourced info in the Tech Support area.

All Onewheels are water resistant, so they can withstand some moisture. We recommend taking extra caution when riding in or near water and letting your board dry completely before charging to avoid damage.
I've seen video of the assembly process which specifically mentions a protective plastic coating on the control board within the housing. IMO the compartment under the front foot pad is also designed to let gravity pull the moisture away from sensitive components, so the additional protective coating wouldn't even be necessary for anything but serious, very deep puddles.
Personally I rode through 1/4" puddles on a salty beach a couple times in the last 6 months and have not had any problems since, put many hundreds more miles on the board.

I'm not @Future-Motion but here's my two cents:
- Yes. I've ridden on the beach a dozen times without issue.
- Time will tell but it's recommended that you use an XLR dummy plug in the power port and put tape over the power button. Reports of sand jamming the button in the past.
- My guess is they would tell you stay out of the water to be 100% safe, otherwise no issue.

Thank you for the information. Cheers!

Here are 4 for under $7. Lightweight rubber, and so far, they fit fine.
