Sudden Power Loss +XR Pavement Hurts...

  • Hey, Onewheeling is a semi-dangerous sport and shit DOES happen. It’s unlikely to be fatal like wingsuit flying and shit but you’re probably going to take some lumps so man up. I’m 74, broken bones on motorsickles, hang gliders, skiing, etc. No wrecks yet in 350 miles on my O/W + in 3 months but if I don’t break another bone (number 20?) I’ll be surprised. And he’ll no, I don’t wear any of that sissy gear. When I cruise by chicks in my neighborhood with a can of beer in my hand I swear, they look at me like i’m A God.

Well, I am about to turn 73. But unlike you, I am not a god, so I don't criticize people for wearing safety gear. Maybe they have families and responsibilities outside their own self desires for fun. I have had a few broken bones, but I actually prefer to avoid them. I applaud your bravado, but disagree with your criticisms of others. Some want to enjoy the float, others want to push the limits. Both have a right to their choices. Man up and allow other opinions than your own. But, more power to you!

  • Yeah, you’re right of course about safety gear. Thing is, there’s 6 - 8 Onewheels in my little neighborhood and no one does gear. If I did I KNOW they’d be calling me sissy behind my back. Also, did you actually believe chicks look at me like a God? With a can of beer in my hand (true sometimes) I’m pretty sure they think I’m a 74 year old asshole.

lol. Now you're being honest. Us old dudes have to stick together. The whipersnaps shouldn't have all the fun.

  • True. I’m flying my LongEZ to Reno next week to the air races. I’m taking my O/W for transportation at the races as I have a trashed knee (ski wrecks) and can’t walk more than a couple miles a day. As far getting around for miles at a time the O/W is like a gift from God.

  • All issues aside, I am so happy to be riding again! The more miles I clock, the less my wallet hurts.. I will certainly post up if any problems arise with my XR. Fingers crossed for another 500 miles of care-free riding before winter.

  • @TheONEinMN

If they want to play hardball, you can always look into whether your credit card has a buyer protection program. If the full amount of the wheel were charged back when they tried to jerk people around, maybe they'd think twice.

  • @speedracer I know the type. Parents my age (early 30s) just shelling out big bucks for a hip new toy. I had a long conversation yesterday with a OW rep where I STRONGLY recommend they revise their marketing. No wrist guards! Not one model in the videos is wearing wrist protection in those video backdrops on the homepage. I'm 35. I've done inline, parkour, skateboarding and skiing. I've broken my right scaphoid at least once, possibly twice according to x-ray and have taken falls hard enough to require precautionary casting many times- each time requiring light duty and fewer hours at work for 2-4 weeks per injury. Once you pass 30, injuries begin to turn into arthritis and impact your livelihood in hands-on professions. Please don't be afraid of looking dorky. If someone 20 years younger than you pokes fun, simply explain exactly what the dangers are. Wisdom is on your side.
