Another nosedive question

  • I have had 4 on my XR.. Almost forgot one.

    First one Cruising way too fast on flat asphalt, I made a left on a green light and started heading up a small grade. I guess the motor couldnt handle any more and it nose dived.. I was going strait and maybe 20-21 MPH.. Sudden nose dive and wobble off. Maybe 38-40% battery remaining on Delirium.

    The 2nd and 3rd to me felt no where near full speed (IMO But i havent reset my Top Speed and sometimes dont even start the App), I was going strait or mild carving and boom nose dive. One on a bike path one on flat Asphalt. Both over 40% battery 15 -18 MPH Delirium. Maybe I just really did ignore pushback and was going way to fast for the motor but I felt they were both at under 20mph and on a flat surface. I do like going fast... 50% chance User Error!

    The 4th was me going way too fast again and hitting a bump in the concrete.. Instant speed wobble and nose dive.. This might have been recoverable with the flight fins and more confidence..

    Since then I have installed the Flight Fins and Fangs 2.0.. I use the flight fins all the time to hop speed bumps small curbs and feel more stable off road.. I think they are a great Mod.
    I have not had to use the Fangs yet.. I have been taking it easier and trying not to push it.. Slow downhill, Slow up hill, watch for bumps, Slow over bumps, Charge if under 35%, stay centered and no Hot dogging!!!

    I do suggest helmet, wrist and/or gloves.. Elbow and knee protection wont hurt either.. High top Skate shoes... lol Have Fun!

  • @readysetawesome $2599.00... Ouch! That board looks nice a super fun but I will learn to slow down on the one wheel.. lol! $1799.00 was crazy to me. 2599?? The Koowheel is more in my electric skateboard price range..

    All my bails were with less than 80 miles on the board.. I think I've learned the limits of the Onewheel.. ;) I will keep trying to stay upright!


  • @JonAmico77 I just had my first nosedive just like your scenario one. I’ll have to look into fangs and fins, huh?

  • @Trackingshotjay my buddy just messaged me that he had his second Fangs save today - he's been messing with the custom settings and experimenting with them at various speeds, which is a good way to find out the hard way what the limits are.

    You'll get a lot of conflicting opinions on them, but IMO if you ride primarily on pavement, they are likely to do you more good than harm. I can only think of a few scenarios related to either terrain (since they do ever-so-slightly reduce your clearance by fractions of an inch, they could catch something off-road) or riding style (if you dip your nose real low when you turn, and catch them that way) where they could be a drawback.

    Otherwise most of the time you should never even notice they are there, and if you ever need them, you'll be glad you had them.

  • 500 miles in 5 months on my +. I bought it used (86 miles) and it came with fangs. I'm 74 and pretty concretive and no falls after the first week. The fangs have (probably) saved me twice. Both times entering a steep incline at speed, once on pavement and once entering a sidewalk. Both times the fangs made contact. I kept on going and gloated.

  • The v1 would constantly nose dive on me when trying to fly up hills or doing 24mph+. Over time I realized that nosedives are usually the result of the over-exerting the engine to the point where it can no longer dedicate sufficient power to help you balance. You keep telling it to go faster so it goes faster and pushes back harder and eventually it cannot generate sufficient power to help you balance anymore. I wish they could program the board top out at a safe speed to prevent this but then again if I'm getting chased by a dog I want to be able to push the board faster and position myself against a possible nosedive. The is done by bending your knees more and shifting your front hip forward to keep the board accelerating while shifting your torso/head backwards to keep most of your body weight on your back leg. Keep your eyes on the road and shift to neutral 50/50 angle when going over significant bumps or lips.

    I'm happy to report 0 high speed nosedives on the + and +XR. The power issues have been resolved and they push backer harder at higher speeds to prevent from mistakenly crossing the nosedive threshold. It should be noted that I only weigh 155lbs so heavier riders beware.

  • Nosedive #2 today, just got back from ER. Broken collarbone, badly pulled groin muscle, rung my bell pretty good too. Smooth, flat pavement. Thought i was balanced on the edge of pushback- not forcing it. Nosedive came out of nowhere and i'm hugging pavement. Very quick. Glad for helmet, wrist guards and gloves. Maybe lead foot too far fwd? Scratching my (sore) head on this one.

  • Great topic. Science/Diagnostic Data preferred - please include. My experience is that Nosedive is a Failure Mode (hey, FM!) -- NOT a Feature. My experience includes 1 ND on 2nd 7mi trip of brand new XR:
    After a day of shredding dirt single-track and cruising pavement, ND1:

    40% battery
    10% uphill grade, straight/flat smooth pavement
    100F motor temp
    No warning, NO pushback (plenty of pushback on the ride, NOT at ND)

    My main reason believing this is FM (Failure Mode) and NOT a feature, is that no warning is given . After working with EV systems for 17 years, I can assure you, that any system capable of protecting itself (feature) is capable of providing a signal of that imminent protection. Such protection (cutout) NEVER need be instantaneous, but may be "ramped", give warning, and reported. OW does none of these.

    FM (Future Motion) could potentially convince me that this is a feature IF:
    it were proven repeatable/reproducible on demand
    it were advertised as a feature in print in the manual / webpage
    it had mitigation / warning (ramp, audible - alarm)
    it were reported to the APP that protection feature (EJECTION) was activated.

    But as far as I can tell , FM is 'mums the word' (please link their statement, if I've missed it).

    What's your weight, tire pressure, speed and battery level? These factors all come into play.

  • @Glyph Fangs can certainly help to recover from a nosedive! Here's an example...

  • @Stay_in_school Excellent video showing clearly what they're for, why, and how they work - even if you had been thrown, or in the rare event the board had cut out completely due to software or hardware failure, buying the rider any extra time - even additional fractions of a second - in which to react, can only ever help.

  • OW XR, going 10-13 mph, flat street, guess I just fought pushback and the pushback won or I leaned to far forward

  • On the XR, the nosedive risk starts out negligible when the battery is full, and becomes most worrisome when the battery is almost dead. It's highly dependent on the charge level.

    On the V1/Plus, the nosedive risk is more consistent across the discharge curve, but definitely higher overall. If you're serious about not nosediving on one of these, install a Two-X upgrade (

    Are you talking pushback Andromeda or Gemini firmware on the XR? They seemed to have smoothed out pushback on XR which was more drastic than the V1 and Plus.

    @Killer556293 were you pushing with your leg or leaning with your body to keep speed?

  • Thanks for all the feedback, but I would be more interested, if your nosedives occured during straight riding or doing s-turns/carving/slaloming?
    And maybe at what speed approximately?
