Womp womp. XR battery suddenly only giving 8 miles
thanks guys. pOnewheel doesn't seem to work for me. I only get firmware and hardware revs, no other stats show up for my XR

Crap, did you update to Gemini? Going off memory, but I believe that killed the connection to 3rd party apps.
Is your 8 mile range measured or calculated by the app? What's your total voltage when your board's at 100%?
that 8 mile range was measured on the app's Trip odometer, I always ignore the range estimates in the app.
I did update to Gemini. Bummer.
Total voltage at 100% (plugged in): 63.0v
Total voltage at 100% (unplugged, moments later): 61.9v
Rather than wait on support, and guess about whether this will be covered by warranty (I'm over the mileage limit)... I'm planning to disassemble and debug the battery myself, replace any funky cells, does anybody know what kind of cells are in the XR?
@readysetawesome Sony VTC6
anybody know how hard it is to disassemble the pack? is it all glued together or can I actually remove cells?
I'm looking at spot welders now....
@readysetawesome This might help
Replacement XR Battery (even MORE range) https://reddit.com/r/onewheel/comments/9qkbvt/replacement_xr_battery_even_more_range/
@Rado Thanks! I just ordered some of those awesomer cells to custom build my own pack:
30 x Sanyo NCR20700B 4250mAh 15A Battery
@Rado I just finished opening up my XR battery pack for disassembly and it contains Samsung 30Q cells. FM or more likely their supplier in China is using different brands for different batches. The Samsungs are much cheaper than the VTC6 so it seems like a cost saving measure.
Some reading of anecdotes suggests these are known for better longevity overall vs. the VTC6 but not as good at holding up voltage, which might be contributing to my problems lately.
Going by mileage I’m somewhere between 100 and 200 charge cycles.
@readysetawesome Interesting, well the 30Qs are good cells. That’s what all the esk8ers use to build packs.
@Rado I see. That’s good. I plan to test and reuse them in new packs.
All Done! I managed to get my rebuilt NCR20700B pack to fit without any mods to the battery compartment. (Had to play battery tetris for about 2 hours before I finally found the right arrangement.) I put 5 miles on it yesterday, works great! still reading 61v after 5 miles, pretty impressive!
Testing of the old OEM battery pack cells, which I've now replaced, revealed a cell pair that is low-voltage so one or both of those are bad.
Support ticket closed! And now i have leftover these 28 Samsung 30Q cells with which I can build an extra general-purpose battery pack.
@readysetawesome Did you end up using the same amount of cells as the original?
@Rado Yeah it is 15s2p
