Major push back with batter reading at 90%.
-
Hi, today in way commute to work my onewheel xr began giving me major push back, and sending me alert to charge battery that the battery was low. When I opened the app, it shows the battery is at 90%. I tried turning off and back on but the push back continued. I was not riding extreme down hill or anything that would cause the regenerative push back when batter is fully charged. I’m going to charge it when I get home, just looking for some advice.

@Alexmcc take a look on the diagnostic section in the app and see what the actual voltage of the pack is. Fully charge should be close to 63v, flat is about 44v.
The percentage data is an approximation that the app uses and is known to be inaccurate, particularly if you don't balance charge the board very often. 90% is at the extreme though.

@stinkyface diagnostics shows battery voltage at 55.

@Alexmcc after fully charging, seems to ride fine around the block. 🤷♂️

Do u use a hypercharger?
-
No hyper charger just the standard one it came with. I’m runnning into the same issue this morning, rides fine until battery is down to 90%, diagnostic reading battery at 55V. Onewheel alerts on phone saying battery is dead and needs to be charged.

@Alexmcc How old is your board and is it still under warranty? I had this issue at around 1900 miles on my XR (out of warranty), but it first happened at around 35%, then the next ride, it was 70%. After the first walk of shame carrying my board about 4 blocks, the second time I was 1.5 miles from home, so I had to Uber it. Anyway, called @Future-Motion and they said that most likely 1 or more of the cells was bad. Sent it back to them for new batteries and all has been well . . . just crossed 5000 miles on the board and keeping my fingers crossed. The FM battery replacement was expensive, especially with the shipping, so if these go bad, I'll probably go with one of the aftermarket solutions and do it myself to save some $$$s.

Seems like a safe bet.
These cells top out at 4.2v each with 15 in series for both the XR and Pint.
63v is full and from my experience on the XR 45v is the absolute lowest (3v per cell).Using data pulled by zeeforlife08 we can see what to expect.
(source https://www.reddit.com/r/onewheel/comments/dnv35i/xr_vs_pint_data_by_popular_demand_i_gathered_data/)At 90% you should see around 60v.
Dead cell would take off 4.2 (when full) so 55.8v, that puts it's close to this 55v the app is saying.I imagine the BMS is seeing that one cell below the lowest acceptable voltage and requesting a charge.
As @OneDan said this will probably be a job for @Future-Motion.

Sounds like a job for milk crate...

@OneDan I got the board in December of 2018, the warranty has expired. How much did they charge you for the battery replacement?
-
@Alexmcc Almost $500 including shipping.

Wow! Might as well go with the CBXR or similar aftermarket option at that price. It's a curious business model they got going huh?
