Foot injury :(

  • Took a spill earlier today.
    Big owwies, Much pain :(

Seems like it's a mixture of a twisted ankle and extreme swelling all over the upper and outer edge of my left foot. First time ever taking painkillers it was that bad.

Anyone had similar and know how long it took to recover?
25 so I'll probably bounce back but have nooo idea what I'm in for in the coming days.

If you want to sort of see what happened I did have the Mavic following me at the time of injury. However I felt compelled to meme it up since I need something to keep me in good spirits in the meantime.

    Ouchies

    Wish me luck getting better~

  • @Lia -- Quite a spill! Absolutely best of luck getting better! Very sorry it happened -- and after watching your video I am still unclear; it looks like a trap-door nose-dive that you almost recovered from except for the rough terrain.

  • @blkwalnutgrwr Thanks :)

From memory I hit a few bumps that were spaced enough to compound into a stall that caused the first nosedive. After that it's a blur and needed the vid to figure it out.
I briefly managed to recover but before I could pull out of nose down territory another bump caught me and pushed my rear foot up and off the board.
At that point I come down hard on the rear, launch my front foot off like a seesaw and utterly lose balance.

Adrenaline was on my side for about 5-10 minutes so was able to ride back to a road 1km away so my sis could pick me up. Still stings but it's the swelling crushing my foot.

  • @Lia lol... Joints are troublesome. Be sure to stretch from now on. Speaking from similar experience.

Maybe patent leather dress shoes aren't the best footwear for off-road board sports hmm? Unless of course you designed them yourself in your evil tech lair.

  • @NotSure Can confirm, very troublesome >.>

Shoes are arguably up there on the "worst things you can ride with" and I've been playing with fire since my early rides. Maybe will go back to the booties for off-road, already had to repair these shoes twice and will need to again after this.

already had to repair these shoes twice

    lol

  • @Lia Bummer, hope for a speedy recovery. I guess that makes this day officially “worse day ever.”

  • @Lia That video was scary, though it would take a whole lot less to knock me off my board! I ride almost exclusively on smooth paths, but occasionally I ride relatively smooth gravel or dirt roads and come upon some unexpected bumps and ripples. If I hit 1/10 of the bumps you were riding, I would've jumped off! Of course, at my age (62, ahem!), I'd probably end up in a wheel chair!!

As requested, good luck in your recovery!

  • @HanahsDax Seems like it, not been our day today :/

@OneDan I've got a few clips prior of me going a bit quicker on another stretch. On this section as the drone was struggling to keep me in frame I was going slower than I'd have liked. Probably good thing else I might have broke something. Been a while since I tackled a footpath this bumpy and might be the last, think I'll stick to something smoother like worn in trails and paved surfaces!

Thanks for the nice comments all, been keeping a smile on my face when I'd otherwise be curled up in bed. Speaking of which it's nearly 4am... Think I'll hobble into bed.

  • @Lia -- Expect slow recovery says Ruth Anne, my spouse and a former registered nurse. However, the good news from posts I have read elsewhere, and from personal experience, riding a Onewheel can be therapeutic for feet, ankles, and calves -- muscles and ligaments. Take it easy for sure; don't make it any worse than it already is. But lightly using it as you recover is a key to retaining flexibility. And yes, you are right to distract yourself with smiles and whatever entertains you as your body heals!

  • @Lia -- Your streak, too, is impressive; right behind 'fuser'. Unless you are braver than I am at enduring pain, riding today was probably off the docket. But you are legendary in your own right... and I love your videos.

  • @blkwalnutgrwr Ah you see I'm not brave at all regarding pain, but I'm not one to ignore silly ideas.
I actually just finished riding around my apartment with my knee's on the rear pad and hands on the front. Been doing that for what felt like forever which according to the app equated to 6km apparently.

Footwise the swelling is there still but the constant pain has lessened significantly. Not enough to walk on without assistance but enough that I can sort of hobble around without the crutches if I have the big clunky foot thing on.

Thanks for the kind words, this community has been so good and I'm happy to have met yourself and others here on the forum <3

if I have the big clunky foot thing on

If Billie Eilish can do it!!!

  • Oh, Lia! Poor baby! (Sorry, I don't mean to offend. This is one of our "family lines." If we can't offer anything helpful at least the injured party had earned a hearty and sincere, "Poor Baby!" )

In this case, I might recommend you look into RedLight Therapy to reduce the swelling and help stimulate recovery. It goes by many names: Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), Photobiomodulation, Cold Laser, etc.

I discovered this useful tool from the Equine world. Brought home a set of lights, years ago, from a horse show ... ran them by my Chiropractor who also offered Red Light therapy in his office and then, basically, stole the lights from my horses to use on me. I have the following products from Photonic Health:

These days there are many vendors in this same space. Perhaps someone you know might have a Red Light you could borrow for your foot? These things are so good that my two newer handheld lights (the Multi-light and the Pro Gen II) go with me everywhere in my purse. Love my lights and Pad system!

    I really hope you are able to take the time needed to fully heal and regain the strength. {{HUGS!}}

  • Separately, you did a great job with the video! You've got talent! :)

  • And single nettle to boot! Now that is just not fair. Again, Poor Baby!! (Again, I don't mean to offend. This is meant in all kindness and wishing you could have been spared this insult from nature.)

  • @HorsePlay Aha it's fine, thanks for the kind words *hugs*

I think at this point other than the swelling (and maybe lingering ankle pain) I'm getting better. Never heard of that treatment before but have seen similar stuff that uses IR on the skin. I think my old hair removal thing used IR too.

Glad you liked the video too :)

  • I was expecting it to take a little longer for me to manage standing on the board again but despite still not being able to actually walk on my foot I managed to actually ride!!!

By ride I mean doing donuts in my carpet >.>
