      • Altered M4 800 (old electric off-road board)
      • Detroit Surf Co (human powered) longboard
      • Boosted Dual+ V1 (just got it today)
      • OneWheel (the ultimate)
      • superman hoverboard (hasn't caught fire...yet)

I didn't really post (just) to brag. I picked up a boosted dual+ v1 and just got it today, wanted to talk about my experience and comparison to the onewheel

so of course the big difference is speed and stability (on flat smooth ground). I love the acceleration and carving at high speeds without any fear of face planting (not that it's ever happened). Even though I occasionally reach speeds of 15-17mph on the OW , I'd say I average around 10-12 comfortably cruising around the neighborhood. With the BB I can comfortably run full out at 22mph and it's a completely different experience , i can fly though and explore different areas quickly where the OW is a slower more deliberate relaxed experience (probably not explaining this very well lol )

I say it's a different experience because it really is , you really can't compare the two at all . The OW corners faster, maintains a consistant floating feel over rough and varied surfaces and feels more like an extension of you rather than a vehicle . That last one stood out the most for me , the BB with the controller throttle and wide turns (at slow speeds) made it feel much more like a vehicle where the OW just feel like a part of you

Anyways just some quick first day thoughts .. Any other Boosted Boarders please share your experiences

@No I was thinking of calling mine "Wonder Wheel" , like from the move "The Toy" w/ Richard Pryor alt text

    • OW Backpack Idea (new)

So i was thinking through the backpack idea again, and i think that we can do something like this pretty easily (rough photoshop, don't judge :) )

      alt text

This specific hardshell case would'n't actually work due to the zipper placement, but i just used it for an example. Essentially what i'm thinking is to have a hardshell case like above , about 7-8" deep which would allow the OW wheel to sit with the top of the board resting against the top of the case w/ the top of the wheel and both sides exposed. on the inside i would have foam cutout. you would open the case sit the board down flush into the foam insert , close the case , latch it , and you're off. could also have areas in the foam cutout (under the board) with room for the charger and other little items.

      thoughts?

    • NoseDive - Actual concern or Overhyped?

I'm on the fence right now , trying to decide between picking up a Onewheel (which i can get immediately from my local Best Buy) or ordering and waiting for the Boosted Board 2 . I don't really plan to commute on it , just mostly going to be used for fun runs. I think i would 100% sold on the OneWheel if it weren't for all of the cases i keep seeing of the Onewheels nosediving for apparently no reason .

I guess my question is: is this a real constant concern when you're riding? (nosedive) . and for those of you that have experienced it , is it primarily due to fighting pushback at high speeds? or you're foot coming off the footpad? or other random??

if it's just a "fighting pushback" issue , or leaning too far forward , etc.. i'm fine with taking that risk... what i'm not OK with , is if the boards are randomly nosediving due to a slight shifting of the front foot or for no reason at all ...

sorry i know this topic has come up a few times but was hoping to get some concrete answers to help make my decision before pulling the trigger

      thanks guys

    • RE: 1st OW ride complete!

UPDATE: just back from my first full ride and ..... soooooo awesome!!!!

so i finally got the kids to bed (1yr old and a 3yr old) and heading right out to take my first full ride.

It was already dark out by the time i got out there and the first thing i noticed was that the lights are actually usable, they lit up in front of me perfectly and i love the look of the brake light as well. so i took it around the block , down the sidewalk, in the street , across some neighbors lawns (just a little) and up and down driveways. It was unbelievable! i started to get comfortable and relax my body and carve a bit and it was so much fun!

I did keep thinking about my front foot and it scared me as i carved that i might lift up my front foot too much and nosedive (but it never happened).

can't wait to take it back out tomorrow, there's a great smooth dirt path at the park near my house , i might give that a go

The funny thing is that i watched a million OW ride videos prior to purchasing , and now that i've ridden it, i'm going back through and watching them all again with a new appreciation

    • 1st OW ride complete!

just got back from my first "ride" on my new OW (only went down the block and back and then had to get back to work ...plan on going on a longer ride this afternoon...can't wait!

First impressions: amazing! but , actually a little more difficult than expected.

Well, maybe not difficult but i was shakier on it than i expected that i would be. I skateboard, snowboard, have surfed a few times, and whip around my house on my hoverboard all the time , but this was a completely different beast!

I started out in Classic mode and then jumped to extreme right away. I felt like classic was really restricting my turns and it felt much more awkward.

anyways just wanted to post really quick , i'll update later once i get some time to get a better feel for it!

    • RE: Interesting Facts

I think a beach would be the best and safest option. People rent Jetski's and all sorts of vehicles that are much more dangerous than the onewheel, and what's the worst that could happen to you on a beach , you fall off and land on the sand, big deal. you could make it a minimum hour rental , with a 10 minutes training session (for newbies )

I would say you would need to keep the cost down to really get enough interest...maybe like $40/hr , $60 for 2hr max

      so let's do some math:

let's say you rent out a single OW for $40/hr , and figuring in for turn in and next rental times , let's say you average 5 rentals per day @ $40/hr (figuring on the low end just for arguements sake)

      • so $40/hr x 5 = $200 / day / OW

now lets assume you have just 6 OW's and each rents out at that rate (5 rentals per day @ $40/hr avg) - now you're making $1200/day

you pay two people to work the stand all day @ $100/day = $200 and maybe a rental fee to the beach? let's say $200/day for stand or beach rental fee . with that you're at a daily cost of $400 and $800 profit

      if you're in a vacation area lets say you can make this rate a good 4 days per week and then maybe 1/2 this the other 3 days ...so that's $800 x 4 = $3200 + 3x400 = $1200 . $3200 + $1200 = $4400

      $4400 profit per week x 4 = 12000 profit per month , not bad!

of course my assumptions could be way off :)

    • RE: Man I am too old for this =(

@shoemoney I was kind of in the same boat as you (but slightly different). In my case i picked up the basics quickly , but just felt a little uneasy for the first 5-6 rides. I actually was going to sell and the guys on here convinced me to give it a few more tries, and now i love it!

      a couple tips:

      1. go right to extreme mode , do NOT use classic : classic mode is awkward , extreme lets you lean more and feels more natural

      2. you can't learn by going slow: it's not like a hoverboard where you can sit in one place and slowly make you're way around. To get a good feel for the one wheel you need to get moving a bit. I would recommend heading down a sidewalk or street with no traffic and get moving , once you feel good moving in a straight line try carving a bit

      3. practice on cement, not grass: you might consider practicing on the grass in case you fall , but grass is uneven and has occasional roots, etc.. you really need to get you're one wheel "legs" first before tackling grass and other terrain

      4. once you get the basics down, take a loooong ride: head out at night or when low traffic and take a long leisurely ride (2-3 miles) ...after about 3-4 or these and you're confidence will skyrocket

      5. don't overthink it: just relax and enjoy the ride

    • RE: NoseDive - Actual concern or Overhyped?

thanks for the replies guys - exactly what i was hoping to hear... that helps with my decision. i think i might join the club!

to be honest , if the BoostedBoard2 was available now it would be a tough decision ...but the wait would put me at getting one around christmas ...and living in Michigan , what's the point in that lol

As much as i'd like to pretend i'm Casey Neistat and boost around the neighborhood, i think the OneWheel will be so much more practical (waterproof, able to take offroad, etc.. )

    • RE: OW Backpack ideas

@LidPhones Thanks - i know some guys that do some fabrication work , might be able to throw something together. i'll keep playing around with cleaning up the design and throwing some ideas out here first .. i'm also considering this same design , but instead of the pack encompassing the entire OW, it would be a shorter backpack and the top and bottom of the OW would stick out , same 4 straps would go across to hold in place., and space would be even more limited for storage in this case, but it would be smaller pack and easier to ride around w/ it on you're back when you're on the board.

man i hate you guys! lol , but i think you're right . i probably should at least give it some time and a fair test. I like the name idea, she does need a name ...that way when she dumps me face first , i can yell at her by name :) j/k

Thanks for the advice guys, i think i'll hang onto it for a while

    • RE: OW w/ 6miles totalLY "not" for sale (edit)

So i went back out today (cut out of work a little early and headed to a couple parks near my house) . The first one had some rolling hills down this bike trail and i felt shaky still and a little off, then i took it offload down this trail , which was awesome...but i hit a tree root and nose dived. I was able to run it out and i guess this was exactly what i needed, because after that first fall i started getting my nerve up a bit and from there on i had an amazing run!! went over to another park with a great mix of dirt trails, cement trails, and bridges , and it was just a great time!

@wr420 i can relate to the "it's 9:30 where are you going?" one lol ... by the time i get done w/ work, do family stuff, get the kids to bed and finally get to head out for a quick run, it's like 9:30 - 10 .. good thing our OW's have lights :)

    • RE: Starbucks run - first real distance test

@hustle yeah definitely glad i hung onto it . I still feel that it will be more fun for short fun-runs than commuting (like i did yesterday) . I'll probably pickup a boosted board (or cheaper electric board) at some point for commutes and then possibly pickup another onewheel to go riding w/ friends . It would be so much more fun with friends to ride with :)
