    • RE: Howdy, I'm new! Goal: Exercising the horses using my XR

      Apparently I'm late to the party! Land Rover, it seems, has already put it all together: Music Festival, OW + horses, cars, outdoor sports and more at Coachella Valley, California.

    • RE: Watching Action on the Leaderboards

      Please let me know if this is the wrong place to post personal levels that do not appear on the published leaderboard.

      On Saturday I broke into the double digits for XR Daystreak! I hit #98!
      This was quickly moved to #96 on Sunday and to #94 today (@91 days).

      I feel as if reaching the double digits is a major (personal) milestone. I'm thrilled and excited. :)

    • RE: Onewheel Stories

      Hubby gloated last night over his OW ride at a customer facility during the day. The site is large ... and he had secured a coveted parking space near the work area just before dawn. Mid-day he needed to run paperwork to the admin office about 2 miles away. Move his truck? No way. Walk? Most do ... but ... but ... yippie! He had both his OW and helmet in his truck!

      He kept pace with an employee's golf-cart as he disciplined himself to obey the 10MPH on-site speed limit. The cart driver struck up a conversation as they cruised up a hill, side-by-side. By the time he reached the admin office, folks were swarming him for info about the 'hoverboard.'

      He laughed. Usually getting paperwork through the admin office is a major pain. Nobody appears to care or take interest. Yesterday? He had flocks of 'interested' people and his paperwork sailed through once he had satisfied their questions about the board. ("Focus, people! Paperwork. This is just my ride. Yes, they are fun. Yes, they are useful. Yes, you can get one, too!")

      Float on ... and later gloat on ... :)

      I usually get the first 2, followed by "how much does it cost?" . . . immediately followed by an audible gasp!

      I've been sidestepping the cost question by directing the conversation, in that moment, to a local rental company. That makes the conversation so much easier: "Rent one ... it comes with a lesson!" :)

      Edited to add: That said, if I had rented one ... I would have never purchased one. It took me weeks to really 'enjoy' the ride.

      haven't this level of notoriety since I was in my last years of school.

      Should we tug on that thread or simply leave it be ... ?

      Love the image of your OW and cat-ear helmet in the shopping cart (aka trolley)! Also love how we use the photo library on our phones to determine where we were on a given date. Or, conversely, to answer the argument of when did we go to a certain place. Where would we be today without our multi-purpose devices?

      Did you find your Pepsi?

    • RE: Badges - Got ’Em.... Send That Stoke Box (Everest & Mariana Trench .....)

      I pushed myself today ... and got my "Mileage In A Day BRONZE" badge (8 miles). My previous single-day mileage never exceeded 5 miles ... but I pushed through that rut today! All dirt, rough terrain, ... and another new first: my first bonk! Got some air popping over a rather impressive mole hill today. Whoo-hoo!

      Got my "Daily Dominator Gold" badge today: 200 miles w/out breaking my day-streak.

      I know, I know. Many of you do this every week ... it took me 85 days. I had hoped to earn it on Resurrection Sunday, after church, but I had a killer headache with vision problems ... so we came straight home rather than stopping along the route for a ride. :(

      That stubborn headache started on Saturday and lasted three full days. I still feel it a wee bit today ... but I'm almost feeling back to normal. Darn long-Covid!

      @LidPhones , heh-heh-heh. Sure!
      There are bad ways to fall and "better" ways to manage an unscheduled dismount. In one of my "better" falls I pulled off a graceful spiral around the horse's neck and landed on my feet at his shoulder. So cool ... amazingly athletic. But that, of course, was many years ago ...

      @Adam-S , so cool! Thanks for sharing your story and the encouragement!
      As for the horse passing the handler (me) ... one of my horses is used to doing traveling circles on a long line. We haven't yet reached that point with the OW ... but she is asking. Gladly, each my horses accept a tiny wiggle on the lead as signal to slow down and return to my requested position. (So thankful for Natural Horsemanship. What a blessing to have clear, quiet communication and relationship with these critters.)

      @petec8787, Welcome to the Community! :)
      I've found that riding every day ... even if just to earn my daily streak (min 1-mile) ... has helped greatly. I am gaining confidence over new terrains both mentally and physically. My husband and I now take the boards out together on most weekends ... somewhere, anywhere, just to sneak in a ride together. I love it.
      Again, welcome! Glad you are here!

    • RE: Wrecked at 0 Miles.

      @Zocchi , so sorry to hear of your injury!

      Do heal up and give it another try. While you are recovering, watch some YouTube videos of others riding or teaching. Some of my favorites, for good coaching, include:

      • Jake Leary, both his personal channel and his "Learning with Leary" series on The Float Life channel

      • Chris Richardson

      • Jimmy Chang

      • and, of course, the team from Future Motion

      When watching trail videos (my personal favorites), I often turn off all audio and concentrate on the rider's bio-mechanics: stance/foot position, use of hips/shoulders, balance techniques, relative height over the board, de-weighting techniques, etc. While watching, I ask myself: "Can I feel in my body what that looks like it feels like?

      Best to you as you recover and welcome to the Community!

    • RE: Selling my XR+

      Awwww, I hope you are quickly feeling better and have no lasting injury from the fall.

      Of course, between now and the hopeful sale ... you might try it again? I fell so many times in my first 10-miles! Someone posted that "some kinda magic happened" for them at 40 miles and that things suddenly got easier at that point. For me, the magic was closer to 100 miles ... but the difference is remarkable.

      Looking back, I was to quick to say, "This isn't for me; I quit" ... but I didn't follow-through with the quit. I got back up and tried it again, and again, and again. (That might be the old-school horse training in me ... get back on!) I'm really glad I pushed through my worries.

      Best of luck to you, either way.

      P.S. FWIW, it might be helpful to readers seeking a lovely, tricked out XR if they knew where it was located in broad geographical terms? Perhaps you could offer proximity to a major city?

      Thanks also for the tip re: reconnecting after a ride w/out the phone. I'll have to try that ... but not yet ... (I'm too chicken) ...

      @blkwalnutgrwr ,

      Many thanks for the explanation. I've not seen/found the 'unlink' feature. Is the 'Forget' button at the top of a specific boards Information ("i" in a circle) page the same thing/feature? (I'm running app on iOS.)

      Perhaps this feature only presents itself to those riding multiple boards? Two boards show up in my app (mine and my husband's) but only mine is set to 'autoconnect.' I'd simply assumed that folks riding/tracking multiple boards simply 'connected' to each board, one at a time, prior to riding.

      Huh. The app is a funny thing ... simultaneously annoying and satisfying. (Does anyone else find themselves reaching for their board but stopping short, "Nope. Can't ride; I don't have my phone on me." ???)

      Maybe others simply carry their phones more than I do ... mine is often sitting on a table charging. Time to upgrade to newer phone and better battery, indeed. Yes, I need to upgrade my phone because of my new board-sport. Vicious cycle! When does this stop? LOL

      @DarStellabotta,

      OUCH! I hope you heal quickly. I must say, that is a grim photo you chose for the recorded ride. I don't think I would have ever thought of using a shot in that way ... but does make this ride forever memorable, doesn't it?

      Again, heal up in a speedy way!

    • RE: Is your Pint footpad sensor "faulty" consistently?

      @Firehalk ,

      I had similar experiences with my XR for the first ~100 miles.

      • Board would shut down spontaneously when moving in slow speeds, forward/backward
      • Board would frequently fail to engage on mounting
      • Board throws error message while riding: "Foot pad sensor: You have been off one footpad for more than 10 sec. while riding 5.5 MPH - please be careful not to deactivate the footpads while riding!"

      I'm still fairly new to my OW (~160 miles total) but I'm mostly beyond these issues as I've gained experience. Things I've done:

      • Changed my footwear! As mentioned above, footwear makes a big difference. I ended up switching to riding mostly with Vans skate shoes. This solved my first two bullet points.
      • Keep riding! Keep riding! Keep riding! It took a long while to "find my feet," keep them loose (not frozen like rocks or gripping the board with my toes), bounce on the board some, gain confidence to move my feet (adjust position) while riding, loosen my ankles, etc.
      • The Sensor Error message appeared while practicing heel side turns. Seems I'm de-weighting my foot while riding! Oh, my. Gladly, the board has NOT shut down ... it simply throws the error message. To remedy: I'm working to be more aware of my feet, weight balance, etc.

      The "keep riding" is huge! (At least, it has been for me. I'm continually surprised how things that really troubled me at first are now "dialed in, no problem." Keep riding, keep learning!)

      Best wishes and Good luck!
