    • RE: Any local laws against Onewheel?

In California, AB-604 seems to classify the Onewheel as an “electrically motorized board”, and has it's own set of rules. Segway is classified seperately as an “electric personal assistive mobility device”. There are also different specific rules for Electric Bikes, and clarification that an electrically motorized board is NOT an electric skateboard. There is still a lot of grey area in the bill, but the primary problem I found is CVC 21113, allowing any government agency or local authority to make their own rules overriding any state regulations. Unfortunately it's easier for those in power to just say no with a blanket ban discriminating on anything not human powered until technology becomes more formally adopted and accepted, or not :-( Rental E-scooter and bike/ e-bike regulations in urban areas could also impact future regulations for better or worse. I say claim ignorance and ride in bliss unless you see a specific sign posted

    • RE: Helmet for oval shape head

Thanks @groovyruvy and @MichaelW. Wow skate helmets have come a long way since I last shopped for one many years ago when there wasn't much selection, especially in sizing. I finally had a chance to go to a proper skateboard shop that had a full supply in stock of S1. They had all 3 shell sizes and 7 liner sizes enabling me to pick a good fit. I was able to fit a S1 Lifer shell by using the 3xl liner with it to get a near perfect fit. The mega lifer shell was surprisingly a bit too big for me unless I used the thickest liner, but I looked like the Dark Helmet with it on lol. For anyone else looking for a good helmet, I also recommend S1 and Bill's Wheels if you are in the SF bay area and want to try before you buy. Only negative I could find would be the ear cutouts could be cut just a little bigger so the top of my ears don't rub, but so far no big deal.

    • RE: Installed the Hoosier tire. A little disappointing.

Maybe you got the wrong size combined with air pressure is too high. I have tried the 5.5 once. It was "interesting" at the high pressure I tested. Would be interested to try it with normal pressure range. I have the 6.5 with 15-20 psi depending on terrain. I'm not sure the reasoning for people to desire such high pressure. My car is thousands of pounds and doesn't even need that much. Sure you might get better range but unless you only ride on flawlessly smooth pavement with no obstacles, it's just not practical IMO. I'm also the guy only riding the powder at the ski area, steering clear of any groomed so rider preference I guess.

    • RE: Hoosier Treaded Tire & Rubbing (w/ solution)

@goodblake-eskate Not really a big deal to sand down the battery module flange. I'm at 19 psi with no rubbing although I prefer 15psi for dirt. Lay a piece of course sandpaper flat on the tire and rotate back and forth until you can air it up more. Sand and repeat :-)

@groovyruvy said in OneWheel Car Charger:

@lieutenantglorp I think the real question some of us have is: will this device actually be able to power up the Onewheel, given the specs of a typical car battery; or will it not charge the OW because the car battery isn't powerful enough (I'm not knowledgeable enough to talk in specifics re: amps, draw, etc.)

There isn't any reason why it wouldn't work. It's just a step up transformer. The real question is how much longer will it take to charge compared to the ac charger. Even taking up to twice as long is reasonable when you are out on the road with no other source available.

@akraut order placed. Thanks for doing the leg work on this.

      :+1:

I already have the 288wh UPS (chafon/ yellow box), but ordered one of these to use for backup. It is basically doing the same thing as the solar charge controller DC-DC using your car's battery/ electrical system. For the cheap price, it will be nice to have when I forget to recharge my UPS, or I don't want to use it all up. More convenient and portable than wiring up an inverter to use the ac charger. Could be used in a rental car, etc. Why has this campaign not met the minimum yet?

    • Digital Shaping modes on Plus?

I can't remember where I saw the names, descriptions and differences. I think maybe it was in the app? I guess it won't show without board connected but I don't have it with me right now.

    • RE: Tire change! Here is the tutorial..

I'm about to upgrade to Hoosier. I read somewhere else another tip for not damaging the rim while using the tire spoons is to use a piece of leather between the spoons and the rim. Seems like a good idea.

    • RE: Helmet for oval shape head

Thanks for the recommendations. I was able to modify the liner in my snowboard helmet to fit a little better to use until I can get something else. Would be great if someone actually made a more oval shell instead of padding up a larger rounder shell on the sides.
