@kwatts Thanks for the response. The device was posted earlier ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F69RDMW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) lollipop 5.1.1. I don't have other bluetooth devices around right now for it to find, but the scan shows it looking for devices.

RE: Odometer Total Miles...how many do you have?
@No Thanks, I already tried that a bunch of times (as an engineer, that's usually the first thing we try ;-) ). I've tried doing it while it was connected to charger, while it was not connected to charger, after turning the board on in the "wrong position" (leaned against wall), as well as in the correct position (on ground). I've tried starting the scan before turning on the OW and then turning on OW. I've tried starting the scan after the OW was already on. I've tried turning BT on/off on android. I've tried powering down and powering up the android device. So far no joy.
I'm wondering if maybe it's a BT version/feature issue on the android?

RE: Odometer Total Miles...how many do you have?
So I bought an android device, in part so I could try out @kwatts app. But hitting scan doesn't seem to ever find my board. I've tried doing "forget device" on my iPhone, as well as disabling BT on my iphone.
Any ideas why I can't connect and/or what else I might try?
FWIW, this is the device I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F69RDMW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

RE: Compare and contrast with other boards
@1woman1wheel said in Compare and contrast with other boards:
@jordo That's a lot of charge stops, and I don't think they have power outlets in cow fields...
Just need to bring power with you:
I throw it in a backpack with the charger for longer rides. Works great. But probably not enough for VT->RI :-)

RE: First ride!
Today I tried taking it to the top of that point in the background of the photo in my first post. It managed to haul my 200 and <cough cough> pound ass to the top and back. Dirt and rock path. Pretty damned impressive! But of course y'all knew that already!
I like how I can switch from extreme to elevated and back without stopping. In these days of gps disabling entry while moving, it's a welcome touch. Now if they would just change the color of the font on the settings screen so that you can actually read it without plastering your eyeball to the screen, that'd be really awesome.

RE: 2nd Day of Riding
Yeah, listen to @thegreck. I had a post fairly similar to yours just a few days ago. :-)

And I'm sure if I had searched I would've found a number of similar threads before mine.
That speed-up is the pushback. I was expecting something different so didn't realize it was in pushback and basically was riding it continuously in pushback mode until the wise folks here edumacated me. I switched to extreme and haven't looked back since (except sometimes I use elevated if I'm doing a lot of offroad and/or hills).
It's sooooo much nicer and more user-friendly in extreme (IMHO).

RE: Charging plug
Just make sure you get the right gender. I was having a hard time getting the dummy plug in and then realized I accidentally ordered the NDF (female) instead of NDM (male). D'Oh!
I guess now I have a protector for my charging plug ... :)

RE: more speed
Just looking at those graphs, I'd say they're not actually hitting the reported max speeds. Speed via gps is notorious for momentary "blips" due to inaccuracies. If it's slightly off with your position at one point and slightly off in the opposite direction on the next position it can make it seem like you traveled much faster than you actually did. My garmin on my motorcycle often tells me my max speed was over 100mph on days when I know I didn't go that fast.
On both of those graphs you see a fair bit of dip right before the reported max speed. It seems far more likely it recorded a position "behind" where you were, causing the dip, and then either recorded a better position next or even a position "ahead" for the next one. The graph seems to indicate that it's really staying below 15mph, as expected.
My $0.02 ...

RE: First ride!
Yeah, both extreme and elevated are sooooooooooooo much nicer - at least for my riding style. Much more comfortable and much less strain. I used to have to stop for a couple minutes about half-way through my 5 mile loop to let my legs recover. In both elevated and extreme I can do the full loop comfortably without stopping.
Apparently when I was in classic mode, most of the time I was riding in pushback mode and I was fighting/struggling to keep it there (not realizing it was actually in pushback). D'Oh!
I've seen mention of some custom apps which let you get at more info than the standard app. Are they only on android, or are there any on iOS (if so do they require jailbreak?)? Any of them tell you the lifetime miles on the board? I've sort of been keeping track in my head and I think I'm around 45 miles now, but it would be nice to see the actual number. I'm kind of surprised the official app doesn't show you this info ...
Anyhoo - having a real blast. What a great product!

RE: First ride!
Whooaaa .... what a difference the mode makes! I did my usual warm up and route in elevated mode. So much more comfortable and seems to match my riding style much better. It also seemed to handle the rough road and trails much more easily. Wish I had tried changing modes earlier! Maybe next time I'll try extreme.
Thanks for the advice and help everyone!
