Looks like a superbly peaceful ride. How long was the trail?

All I can contribute is to consider how fast the board might be able to fly off without a 150 or so pound weight on it. Now consider that 25 pound board flying off at that speed while tethered to your leg.
Might not go so well for your leg. 😬
RE: Nearly Killed a Child
I'm not trying to stir the pot, but really just want to understand your frame of mind. Car malfunctions kill so many people. Accelerator stuck. Parking brake not holding. Brakes going out. They are much more deadly devices than a runaway Onewheel. This article lists several instances of death due to car malfunction, and one in particular is responsible for a reported 124 deaths alone.
Unless you plan on also giving up any type of vehicle or mode of public transportation and plan to start riding a horse everywhere (which also comes with its own share of potential deadly mishaps), I think it's unfair to paint the entire Onewheel company, brand, and product with the same wide brush just because of one isolated incident.
Please know, I am not in any way discounting the absolute horror and concern of what happened. It definitely sounds like one scary shit show, and could well have turned tragic. I agree wholeheartedly on that point.
RE: Onewheel Demographics
I received mine in August of 2018, when I turned 37 as a gift from my girlfriend.
I have never done ANY type of board sports.
I am not very athletic - not in the least.
I like to believe I'm at least averagely coordinated.
I first tried a Onewheel at a local dealer's. They have a demo available, and although I did fall square on my ass at one point, I still managed to get on and slowly cruise it around the parking lot fairly well.
Once I actually got the board, I started riding daily and got comfortable with it in the first 3 or 4 days. In the 2 months I've had it, I've logged 437 miles.
Best birthday present, EVER.
As for the embarrassment of cost, I never feel that way. I've used this for so much commuting and errand running, and it has cut down my gas bill quite a bit. I feel that within the first 6 months to year of ownership it will have already paid for itself from the reduced use of my car.
RE: Please enable a offline recording for new track in the app
I'm not 100% sure, but I would say the reason there is no offline mode is because the app utilized GPS to track your ride, which in turn needs a network connection.
Onewheel App Suggestions
To the FM gurus:
I'd like to recommend the following features to be added to the Onewheel app:
- RIDES - date of ride logged
- RIDES - sorting options
- RIDES - data export
- LEADERBOARD - current rank for streak
- LEADERBOARD - show how many mi/km the top mileage holders added the previous day
With all the data each ride logs, having one more line to include the date without having to type it in the ride name would be very convenient.
Being able to sort rides by date, location, distance, etc. would be useful for sharing info with others.
I'm not sure if the rides are stored locally on the phone, or if they're kept on a server, but in either case it could be handy to be able to export all your rides to maybe an XML sheet or PDF. Obviously it would be nice to show the ride path, too.
Without having dates on each ride, it's hard to remember if I managed to log a ride for the day (sometimes I forget to start a new ride when I go out). But even with dates, it would be great to see my current streak count with the date of the last ride logged.
For the names on the mileage leaderboard, having an additional column to show the previous day's additional mi/km would help for those looking to move up to know how much distance they should be trying to log each day.
Hope these suggestions get seen by the right people. Thanks!
RE: What kind of pump to use to put air in your OneWheel?
I know this is a pretty old thread, but I figured maybe a newcomer like me might benefit from this info.
I just bought a simple hand pump for sports balls from Target:
This works perfectly. It threads onto the valve securely, and only takes a few pumps to go up several PSI. I used a Slime digital gauge to check the pressure. Again, you can get this from Target:
