    • RE: Pint Bluetooth issues?

@KWasch said in Pint Bluetooth issues?:

I finally got a response back from FM after a month and a half. They basically told me my board is working fine. I downloaded an app that shows Bluetooth devices signal strength. It seems to me the Pint has a very poor signal. For example, My Apple Watch and a Tile on the other side of my house ( multiple walls , 60 ft ) had a significantly stronger signal than my phone sitting on the pint. How FM says that this disconnects are normal behavior is baffling to me.

Check your Bluetooth strength while the board is charging. It should be much stronger because the motor is disengaged. This interference from the motor essentially destroys the Bluetooth connection. That’s why they advise putting the phone on the footpad (it’s the only way for your phone to actually see the signal through the interference).

I doubt anyone will ever admit this because imagine having to recall every board and either isolate the bluetooth’s circuit or relocate the antenna. That would be very costly.

    • RE: Pint Bluetooth issues?

I have a theory to the problem. The motor might be creating interference which is messing with the Bluetooth connection. That would explain all of the following:

-App connecting at low speeds (low motor rpm)
-App connecting when phone is close (interference)
-App connecting when board is charging (motor disengaged)

If this is the case, future motion would need to either relocate the Bluetooth antenna or put the Bluetooth unit on a separate circuit to isolate it from the interference.

In English, there’s a good chance we will have to live with this problem because it’s not exactly solvable with a software update. I can’t see future motion willingly fixing this issue for every Pint sold.

I could be wrong, but the evidence is compelling...

On the bright side, it looks like they under spec’d the range. That’s a pleasant surprise!

      UPDATE:
While my Pint is charging, I am able to connect to the board and change modes from 7 feet away. I cycled through modes for roughly 1 minute walking around the board and made sure the LED indicator went green to prove the modes were changed. I held a rock solid connection, so this issue is completely software related. The hardware seems fine...

    • RE: Pint Bluetooth issues?

      Hi All,
I just got my Pint and stumbled across this issue. The only way I’ve found to connect to the board is:

      -having it simply idling
-hold the phone about 1 inch above controller
-force it to disconnect and reconnect.

It usually takes it’s time and then finally connects. I decided to ride in the crouched position and found that the Bluetooth connection would drop above 5-7mph even if my phone was equidistant to the controller.

Here is the mind boggling part, the phone always sees the Pint when you look at your list of boards. It always shows Pint but can’t collect the data once you open the app. I’d be absolutely shocked if this was a hardware issue.

I am using an Iphone 11... Ironically Apple has had Bluetooth connectivity bugs in its most recent IOS. Not exactly sure what’s up with Bluetooth these days!

Anyone hear anything more useful from future motion? I’ll give them a call next week...

I’m really interested in this too. I’ve found that my + seems to get an unstable amount of current when the battery is lower. I believe it’s relating to voltage sag, but when the board hits a certain load the amps just absolutely spikes/surges. I didn’t think the + battery could sustain enough power/load to the motor. When I heard they changed batteries, I was thinking lipo because it would be able to supply way more power quicker. I was surprised to see they went for these NMC cells

Out of curiosity... Do the people asking if you can upgrade the plus to the XR battery, ask Toyota/Honda etc if they can replace their motor in their 2017 when the 2018 model comes out? Do you ask Apple if you can upgrade your 7 for the 7s camera? It's a new product...You buy new products all the time, stop asking for unrealistic questions that don't help their business thrive. If you want the upgrade, sell your used product and spend the difference. By selling your older product you help spread the stoke to other buyers who might not be able to afford retail prices... this is how every product works! Businesses would never thrive if you can keep your first purchase for 5 years rather than feel the need for an upgrade. For those who bought the plus recently, its still awesome and hasn't lost any value... its a beast, and now the XR is a beast with extended range. Decide if you want the new or not. -endrant

Your post is like comparing apples to oranges. The battery in the onewheel is a modular unit... This box is designed in a way it can be removed and replaced. Car motors/iphone cameras aren’t modular.

I think this is a totally fair question because, look- we spent over 1,500 dollars on a board. When a better battery comes out, it’s fair to ask to upgrade your modular battery. Many people totally need the extra range; however, don’t have the money to drop on a brand new board.

I understand your point, but some people don’t want to live in a disposable world. If you can upgrade, do it. Keep the board instead of just getting a new one

EDIT: Some people also believe their OW+ battery actually isn’t adequate for the increased power of the new board. Especially heavier riders. If onewheel wants to keep a fan base, they owe it to their riders

    • Speedometer Wrong!???

Like the title, This is about my V1. I always look at the app, and the speedometer always said 13MPH when i started to feel pushback. I then got a + and realized the speeds felt different.

I ran around on the V1 with the OW app open and a garmin GPS, and i found that 13MPH on the OW app was actually 11.5 MPH according to the GPS.

Does pushback measure off speed, because i believe 11.5MPH is a little early to already be hitting pushback, no?

@shaka-wheeler "current plus battery can’t necessarily ‘keep up’ with the draw of the motor" Was always interested in Onewheel and almost pulled the trigger, then my friend let me borrow his + for a few days and I started to have second thoughts, mostly range concerned. Have you noticed the board riding differently when the battery is 20% or lower? What is it about the V1 do you prefer more? I'm very close to pulling that trigger again now that the XR is a thing with promise that it has more torque (helpful for that 230lb I'm carrying around, haha.)

I’d recomend going for the XR over the +. My 210 pound friend has ridden both, and the V1 really doesn’t have enough juice for him. The + does, but as the battery goes down, he noticed surging.

I believe that this is because of the voltage sag. If the XR battery is bigger, this might not happen.

As for why i like the V1, it’s much less refined. This makes the riding experience much more fun and connected. Certainly less juice though

What’s the charge time on this new battery?

I feel as if the current plus battery can’t neccicarily ‘keep up’ with the draw of the motor, so this new battery should offer a more stable current when putting a high load on the batteries - meaning there’s a good chance nose diving or surging most likely will be reduced.

I noticed when looking at pictures, it looked like there was more plastic on the bottom of the rails at both sides. Is this added protection plates, or is this to accommodate a larger battery/controller.

I currently run my board with float plates. If this new board actually sticks out more at the bottom, there wouldn’t be enough clearance to instal the protective plates on the bottom.

I have a V1 and a Plus. I love my V1 much more, and im really bummed they’ve stopped selling it

@groovyruvy If you check out 00:14 on Jeff's video https://youtu.be/Jtzp0zGtyqs, you'll see the wheel definitely spins out when it loses contact with the ground. The difference is the amount of torque the motor has in the V1 vs the plus.

On the plus, it's powerful enough to shoot out from under you unless you compensate for it, whereas on the V1, just your body weight creates enough drag that it's easy to control.

      @groovyruvy said in Nosediving +:

@shaka-wheeler feeling your frustration. One thing I noticed is how the Original and + perform differently during wheelslip / when the tire loses contact with the ground. On the Original the motor doesn't rev up, so when you land it's playing catch-up, which is why the nose dips and you need to lean back to be ready to compensate for that. On the + it's different. As soon as the wheel loses contact with the ground the motor revs up big time, in anticipation of the landing. Took me a while to adjust but instead of leaning back like I do on the Original to get ready for the nose to drop, I actually lean forward / put pressure on the front footpad, and that keeps the tail from dropping when the tire reconnects with the ground. 2 different boards, and they handle completely differently. If you haven't yet tried this could you, and let me know how it goes?

Thanks for that. I will setup a grass test. I wish they enhanced the riding experience rather than try and change it. It's unfortunate but i guess that's how it's going to be. Hopefully the company still tries to keep the boards changing, or get a variety. Kind of scary that the board is of the same asthetic (minus footpads) 3 years later after their first product.
