    • Onewheel+ at speed: a word of caution.

A word of caution to all speed freaks out there: the Onewheel+ is so much sketchier at high speed than the v1.

I'm sure everyone that's tried has hit the crazy pushback as they approach 20mph, and it got to the point where I thought the tail was going to start dragging. Then came the scariest part: it completely disengaged the motor and all of a sudden all of the effort I'd been putting into fighting the pushback was turned against me as I instantly started tipping forward. I was sure I was going to be licking asphalt, but somehow I managed to catch myself and get on the brakes.

I am never doing that again. Ever.

EDIT: I was not going downhill.

@Aaron-Broward-FL and @trappar, please don't turn this into a spitting match - some want to push the limit, and they know they're at risk of bailing. I just wanted to try to give people a heads up that the OW+ does not behave like the v1 at the limit.

    • RE: Cost of electricity to charge a OneWheel in Los Angeles.

@MichaelW should be much cheaper by my reckoning.

The battery has a 130 Wh, or 0.13 kWh, capacity. The charger has a full load efficiency rating of >= 88%, so needs at most 147 Wh for a full 0% -> 100% charge. LA residents paid an average of around 18 cents per kWh in January 2017, which means 18 x 0.147 = 2.64 cents per charge.

    • OW Bluetooth connection broken on Android 8.0.0 ('Oreo').

tl;dr: Android 8.0.0 ('Oreo') breaks connectivity with Onewheel+ (and presumably Onewheel as well).

Details: I work at Google and installed Oreo on my Nexus 5X as part of an internal effort to find critical issues before general public release. AFAICT, Android's Bluetooth code was updated to be more compliant w.r.t. the specification, but causes it to ignore some BT devices that send a too-long data advertisement packet (zero-padded). Apparently this is common enough that a fix has been patched into AOSP (https://goo.gl/q2dQsL) to be more tolerant of such malformed packets, but it's not part of the initial release and will take time to get into an OTA update. Those with a Nexus or Pixel phone -- which get updates directly from Google -- are the most likely to be affected. Future Motion would need to push a firmware update to fix this, so a quick fix from them is also unlikely.

    • RE: Issues using v2 iOS app on v1 Onewheel.

@iiikz that's what I was thinking, but also thought I'd leave the specifics to the developers. I know there are at least two (possibly three) different hardware configurations for the v1 that require different firmware versions, so it could be that only a specific firmware version is affected.

    • RE: Future Motion, I need more pushback

@Earthpilot I must respectfully disagree. For the first time since their firmware upgrade about 1.5 years ago (when the pushback was cranked up) I can finally put in a full ride without getting a sore knee.

If you want better performance at 15.5 mph try increasing your tire pressure. I have found that I need 20 psi (or more, if your warrantee is up) to get decent performance at that speed.

Better yet, I hope FM follows through on their promise to let users customize various aspects of their ride rather than just picking from a fixed set of profiles. This is admittedly just for the OW+, but the ability to dial the amount of pushback would be great.

    • RE: Onewheel+ at speed: a word of caution.

@Snurfer It's more gradual than the v1, starts at around 15 mph then increases gradually until it feels like you're going to drag the tail. Then it gives up.

@MichaelW wow, way cheaper with Seattle City Light - just 9.14 cents per kilowatt-hour!

@Aaron-Broward-FL thanks for the idea, I'll put my spare v2 bumpers to use on my v1 Onewheel when the v2 footpads are available for purchase!

    • RE: Speed leaderboard problems?

@Rado I personally love the reduced pushback. I usually ride my v1 close to limit and my knee was suffering from fighting the pushback constantly.

    • RE: Battery life

FM claims the battery will lose about 9% capacity every 1000 cycles (a lot). I passed that mark long ago and my 🔋 is still doing great. I don't think I've lost more than 5% capacity, so I think 9% is worst case.

@tonyrumans pushback does drop off a bit when carving, totally agree.

@aris is your v1 tire rounded on the edges? Mine is and I think it improves carving.

But on the plus side it looks like they don't cap top leaderboard speeds at 22 mph for the Onewheel+! :-)
