Thanks all for your replies. I always check my iphone app after I plug it in to make sure it has the charge symbol and also watch the percentage rise increase before moving on to other apps on my iphone while I wait. The few times I did the vertical mount and charge, the app showed an error message, and even though I started with 35%, there was a red line at the bottom of the 0-100 scale on my iphone at 0%, which I've never seen before. After returning it to normal horizontal, and again having to press power button and plug in the charger a few times, the app showed me that large outlet symbol indicating charging, and my percentage went back up to 38%. So of course I left it alone and now only charge with the unit horizontal. Very odd. I did not want to sit there for 20-30 minutes and then find the entire time it was not charging for some reason so placing it horizontal got it running as normal.

RE: Grip tape is toast
hey kbman, thanks for tip and photos. Have a couple of questions.
I notice the rectangular sensor of course but also notice a glossy material that covers the majority of the pad. Is this to weather protect the sensors? When you heated up the old grip, did it peel cleanly off that protective material without damaging it? It appears to be adhesive-free in your picture so was wondering if you cleaned off the old grip tape adhesive before applying the new grip? Also, I'm liking the Vicious tape mentioned by thegreck2, but am worried that a 'thicker' or more durable grip tape could cause a problem with the sensitivity of the sensors. We all know the need to have perfectly working sensors!! Look forward to your response. -
Charging OW Vertically?
Not sure if this has been discussed on prior posts. There are times I will lean my OW up against a wall or surface vertically to lessen the amount of room it takes up while charging at a store (i.e. Starbucks) and have noticed that the unit does NOT charge unless you bring it back to it's normal horizontal position. App shows an error message as well. After putting it back down to normal and trying it again, it takes a number of plugs/unplugs and pressing of the power button before it finally shows that it is charging again! Anyone else experience this? Thanks! I'm not sure why it should matter the physical position of the unit when charging.

RE: Motor stays engaged when jumping off
@golfer17 Mine did the EXACT same thing but it happened while I was riding comfortably and in control and then it decided to shoot out from underneath me, throwing me off backwards, and then continued for 40-50' and into a guardrail. Riding that OW in NYC, knowing it could take off on him at any moment, is certainly a risky move.

RE: Motor stays engaged when jumping off
@J-Glide Agreed wholeheartedly! Just purchased this a month ago and it has the latest firmware so it is a 'newer' unit, but still suspect in regards to the sensor. I am extremely concerned as to why the board literally doubled in speed while my foot was absolutely and clearly covering both sensors evenly. I have learned my lesson about even the slightest shift or lift on the sensor while riding from prior nosedive with the sidewalk winning that battle! I ride ridiculously aware of my sensor foot staying planted, even though I'm reading you can come off 1 of the 2 sensors and be okay, my brain is trained to leave it flat. The acceleration when this happened was startling to be honest.

RE: Motor stays engaged when jumping off
The same issue has happened to me twice within the last 2 weeks. I call it the runaway board. This past Sunday I was cruising around 7-8 MPH (Extreme mode, batt at 60%) and suddenly the OW accelerated incredibly on it's own which caused me to be forced backwards and off the board. Unbelievably I was able to run it out, although crushed my right heel and seriously bruised now, on that first step off which caught me totally off-guard, but at least I did not hit the pavement. The board sped away from me at crazy speed and slammed into a guardrail, rolled over on it's side and then stopped. Have a small wood section missing now from the deck. Thankfully it did not ride right into the bay I was riding alongside! Emailed Carly and now the support address with no replies as of yet. Extremely unnerving experience and if there were bystanders around, easily would have broken some bones or worse. It has given me a lot to think about in regards to riding anywhere near others.....sort of spooked at this point.
