Yeah right! I shipped a small box with a nearly-empty camelbak in it to someone through UPS a year ago and it cost me $40. Could not have been more than 6 lbs. Shipping a onewheel across the country is going to cost you a mint.

RE: A four wheel electric skate board that competes with OW? Yep! Its almost here...
The Silver model looks interesting. It's the only one with a range that makes the charge time worth it. Boo for no supercharger. These guys use a lot of bing words though. One of their competing brands they list as using "Foot Pads", then they list their board as having "3D Step" instead. Kinda sounds like another word for footpads to me. Not that "Digital Shaping" is all that different as far as bing words for basic features go.
That kickstarter video... They should have just used the nerdy dude at the end pitching the board the whole time. Watching Douchey Paul Rudd smirk through all the features made me feel punchey.

@groovyruvy- I travel to rad places on a frequent basis and am going to figure out how to work SeaTac to make it happen. The other (and safest) alternative is to show up a few hours early and try to carry on. If TSA denies me then I'll take it home and come back in time to make my flight.
Curious, has anyone done this out of SeaTac and if so we're you given any trouble?
Doubt it'd make a difference either way but I will have it sitting in the form fitting Mafia sling pack
Since I've only had my + for a month or so, I have not had an opportunity to take it through SeaTac. I did a road trip down the west coast and back up and rode it all over and it was fuckin amazing. Traveling with these things is the way to cruise around a new place. Please do come back to this thread and update us on how SeaTac went for you if you give it a shot. Highly relevant for others living in the area :)

RE: skateboard that can compete with the onewheel
imo, if you can't carve, it doesn't compare. And to that end, carving on the OW is entirely unnecessary and mostly for fun - unlike a snowboard, where it is your only braking mechanism besides crashing - but is the best way to ride the board. Bombing in a straight line seems to be a sure way to nose dive on the + in particular, and it just doesn't feel half as awesome. With a (realistically) 4-8 mile range, the OW is a poor choice for commuting unless you live very close to where you work. It's for leisurely fun, plain and simple, and I can't really see any permutation of a traditional skateboard comparing to that. Admittedly, I don't own any electric skateboards, because I could only afford to pick one and I went with the OW. But shit, I did a lot of homework first. Apples to oranges really.
Now, there is the Leif Board, the recently-developed electric version of a Freebord, which is the pavement-compatible version of a snowboard. You can check it out leiftech.com . Personally, I can't imagine anything more painful than catching an edge on one of those things at speed. The learning curve must be quite high and crashing quite a disaster. But if we're comparing e-boards for fun factor, it's probably the only real competitor. It is on backorder and reviews are highly mixed so far.

Something's wrong. I have a +, live on top of a hill and always manage to burn off 8% or with an extra trip around the block before I descend. I love the Onewheel, but it reminds me a little bit of an old Fiat--minor variations from board to board it seems.
hmm, good to know. Maybe I should actually contact FM directly. I'd seen some similar complaints so I just assumed everyone had this problem.

@T-CAT Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

RE: Regenerative Carving...
This feature would be more of a product breaker for me. I already spend enough time getting held up by overcharge.

Overcharge is some stone age bullshit
Probably about half the time I ride my Plus I run into this crap. If you have a long stretch of uphill to ride, it's all good, but the goddamn thing stays at "100%" for a pretty significant stretch, so if I've only got a little bit of uphill or flat ground available, I have to walk the thing down the slope until I can ride it. I initially thought this would be a pretty minor setback, but... it's not. On the west coast we've got loads of mountains, and clear from California to Washington I've had constant frustrations with overcharge. Ride uphill... still 100%, still getting pushback. Ride uphill some more... still 100%, still getting overcharge warnings. Sometimes I just get annoyed and go home.
I don't have a single other battery-powered piece of electronic equipment that has to worry about overcharge. The battery and the motor are entirely separate components - why not cut off throughput to the battery at 98%? Would this also cut off power FROM the battery to the motor due to design limitations? I'm struggling to believe such a limitation is reasonable in a $1500 product in 2017.
This problem would be a lot less frustrating if the app was capable of getting an accurate reading most of the time. I try not to charge to 100%, but the app tends to get stuck at "80%" or something, even if I disconnect and reconnect, and then before I know it, the damn thing has charged to 100. And then I'm trying to find some way down a hill and cursing FM as I carry my OneWheel the whole way.
I suppose this doesn't bother folks in the midwest so much.

If you want to carve at high speed and live dangerously, try the Evolve Carbon GT. I have never crashed harder in my life :-)Pretty sure if I had something capable of crashing harder than the OW I'd break myself.

@ZeeMox I purchased the same amazon battery as yours (thanks for sharing the link), now I am just waiting for my + (should be here mid next week). How long does it take to recharge the battery of the one wheel + when you are using the solar generator unit ? Also, did you try to hook a solar panel to recharge that unit ? Any idea how long it would take ? Trying to see if I can get a fully transportable foldable solar panel with me and generate enough power to be totally independent from outlets... but I am probably dreaming...
The + charges just as quickly through the unit as when it's plugged into the wall as far as I can tell. Charge time varies so it's hard to be positive. Using a solar panel to charge the battery is not something I've tried, but it would probably take a very long time. From absolute zero, battery drained until the built in flashlight won't turn on, it takes about 7 hours to recharge the AMSU battery pack when plugging it into a wall outlet. So you can get 2+ charges, but when you're out, you're out for the day.
